Mito Man wrote: Sat Feb 27, 2021 5:43 pm What a cunt, you're too nice for taking the wheels off for him, I'd having given him a wrench and jack and told him to help himself.
That's the type of cunt that even if he did buy the car he'd send you emails/texts every week about new problems he's found thinking he's bought it from a main dealer...
They'd probably end up damaging the wheels, the jacking points, or both.

You wanna look under car? Cool - pay a garage or specialist to inspect it and I'll take the car there. Otherwise, off you fuck.
This, this and this. No ill do that myself and jack it at the correct point and not snap the studs over torqueing them putting the wheels back on.

TBF i thought he was serious so didnt mind spending the time. Its a know weak spot on the elise. Then after all of that and not buying it i was a bit miffed to say the least.

Got another couple of bites anyway. One being my mate who lives on the opposite side of the street. He'd be my preference as it would still be close and we could do trackdays together.

Viewing guy came for two and a half hours....Took the bastard wheels off to show him suspension pickup points...Showed everything else...Left saying he'd think about it.

Phoned back - "I'm going to leave it mate. Theres a couple of microblisters on the rear thats put me off."
Is it possible to find one without them?
You'd be very very lucky.

Mine has plenty, IDGAF. Probably one day I may get it stripped, baked and sprayed, which is I believe the only way to sort it... but that would only be done after it was perfect in every other way (including having a Honda engine)... bottom of the list.

I'd say that's good going for a car of that mileage.

Had another on Thursday - 30 min video call taking him round the car showing the good bits and the bad bits and going through the history folder.

"How many previous owners has it had?"
"7"
"so that makes 8 including you"
"yes.."
"Thats a lot...."
"errm...its a 22 year old car that ive owned for almost 5 years"
"yes but if i have it for a couple of years and want to move it on...."

He failed to see the irony here.

Then...
"Are you happy with the service history ive shown you?" (after showing him the two inch thick folder with receipts dating back to 2001 and a digital copy of the Elise Service manual worth £200)
"Errm not really no - you've not got the service book"
"no ive not but there's is a folder of receipts going back to 2001..."
"no thats a problem for me....especially if i want to sell it on in a couple of years"

Furthermore

"Youve done a lot of maintenance with this.."
"Yes...Its been well looked after"
"Im not very mechanical so i couldnt do that..."
"I use Craig Moncreiff Cars an independant lotus specialist. They are excellent. You could take it there..."
"No...I think ill just buy something more reliable"

End of call....

Who even thinks of buying a series 1 Elise without understanding all this? It's just staggering really.

Maybe that's why people sell stuff to WillB!

Selling cars is horrific.

My M3 had quite a few owners - I was 9 I think in 11 years. Sports car tend to have more, as people who are interested in cars want to try them for a few years then try the next one.

The right person will pop up soon (or your neighbour - which could be awesome/awful! 😂)

And people wonder why I use my cars to death and never get rid of them?

He's a good lad - known him for 30 odd years. He's also been in it round knockhill so knows how well it goes.

Huge problem is, many people want sports cars for posing, and aren't enthusiasts. Which mostly makes them cunts. Porsche selling is horrendous, Lotus vaguely similar I'd imagine. Selling a Ferrari must be a riot

8 hour train ride for me. Looks great. I am still floating between a Caterham, Elise & Cayman. The latter makes more sense I think from a usability perspective but from an event side it's definitely left to right :D

It looking great after a proper clean and polish....

ETA - If you are planning to buy a Cayman then DO NOT drive an Elise  . Ive driven my mates 987 Boxster and it was nice...but...no way would i swap an Elise for one.

Not wanting to sound like a stuck record but the Evora is a great middle ground between Elise and Cayman.

Why do you say that? Surely on a one off test drive a Caterham trumps almost anything, it's the ongoing usability that brings the Elise into play?

I'd buy that in a heartbeat if I could justify it, but I don't envy you the process of selling it. It was bad enough trying to sell a shit-box Verso.

I’ve driven the Westfield lots both on track and on road. I prefer the Elise on the road. There’s a much lower feeling of impending death 😂

A distinct memory was driving through a 50 mph avg speed camera limit when they were doing roadworks in the forth bridge being (very slowly) overtaken by an Arctic two feet away. The tyres were above my head.

I totally misread your post anyway (it was early!) so well done for carrying on regardless!

Three very different cars really. Only car / daily I'd have the Cayman, if I lived in Applecross I'd have the Caterham, if I wanted something that is focused and a bit special but can handle a wider array of situations I'd have the Elise.

On the right road (or track) at the right time, a Caterham is pretty unbeatable, but you come to realise that those situations are not as frequent as you'd like, and as you say, the rest of the time it's a bit of a hassle.
