People who have sold alloys...

Post by mik »

Who do you use to ship, and how do you package them to avoid damage? I have a new 22” F-Pace alloy & tyre that I am going to put on eBay <shudders> But it’s a heavy item and I would want it to arrive in the same condition it left in!

Whoever you use, make sure they're wheely good. You don't want to end up going round and round in circles trying to sort out problems if they get damaged in transit. Shoddy couriers will just give you the runaround!

What @jamcg said.

I sold a full set of wheels on eBay as collection only. Guy showed up in a massive van and chucked them in the back (it was full of wheels). He didn't even look at them. Very easy deal.

I used Paisley Freight a few times and they were great, if I recall about a tenner a wheel for 17s.

I wrapped them individually with card over each face then cling film and lastly packing tape.

Paisley Freight is a good shout since that is pretty close. Cheers!

Yeah, layer of thick card front and back and wrap in stretch wrap and tape. Maybe a bit of cloth or an old towel between the face and the card. They’ll have to be trying really bloody hard to damage a wheel with the tyre on!

Yeah I have cardboard and some shrink wrap, but was wondering whether a thin layer of ply is a better bet? Then oscillated between “that is overkill” and “that is sensible”.

When I was last sent a couple of wheels from someone they were bubble wrapped and put in suitably sized boxes (from some other product). IIRC it was DPD, and they delivered both separately, on separate days!

Timely thread as I'm looking at a set of wheels on eBay and they are located several hundred miles from me in Cowdenbeath.

Also used Paisley. Recommended, and well priced.

Balls.

A 22” F-Pace alloy + tyre weighs more than 30kg (!) so they need to put it on a pallet.

Which means Paisley Freight want more than £100.

Which refers it non-viable economically.

Any other ideas?

Quick question - why are you selling it/where is it from? Is it a full size spare that came with the car?

Yes. Full size spare specified by dealership - showroom car.

On the F-Pace this requires a raised boot floor section, so the negotiation included them fitting a standard floor section instead. Because dogs.

Never been on a car.

Got you - figured that was the case but could work out why - dogs explanation makes sense!

Jesus. Do the AA have to send out Eddie Hearn to fit it? I nearly died swapping my VXR8 wheel.

Have you considered filling the tyre with helium?

As I said before, worth a try selling based on collection only

Yeah still a possibility, but remember the population of London is bigger than the population of the whole of Jockland.
