Nice, yes, I cannot imagine a vert without heated seats. Look forward to the pics. You going to private plate it? Is it in the popular silver?Ascender wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 9:39 amNope, I’m hopefully going for a 2006 3.2 987 S instead. 84K miles, FSH, has been bore-scoped and has the few spec things I was after, the main one being heated seats as I remember that was a must-have for winter top-down drives up here.
That dark blue 986 with two-tone leather was a favourite, but the more i looked at 987s, the more I was sold on them. Apart from being one better, they’re a newer car (albeit a first revision) and the interiors are a fresh change from that original 986/996 look & feel. And no, I’ve never driven one.

Its seal grey which was the colour I always wanted if I went for an S and I will put my private plate on it as its been sitting on retention for a couple of years, so why not.Gavin wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 9:56 amNice, yes, I cannot imagine a vert without heated seats. Re: Used Boxsters - Talk to me....
Good choice. 987 3.2s are so cheap now that it makes the 986s look pretty poor value given how much more dated they look inside and out.Ascender wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 9:39 amNope, I’m hopefully going for a 2006 3.2 987 S instead. 84K miles, FSH, has been bore-scoped and has the few spec things I was after, the main one being heated seats as I remember that was a must-have for winter top-down drives up here.

I guess that's why now 4 (IIRC) people on this forum have bought one in the last 12 or so months!

Excellent.
For ongoing maintenance - I found Motortune in Shotts (Peter McAnna) excellent. As did many others on PCGB - not that I have looked for a few years.
He also did pre-purchase inspections back then.

Re: Used Boxsters - Talk to me....
Thanks for the tip. I know there’s a couple in Edinburgh - Brian Miller & David Phillips but don’t mind travelling a bit. I’ve not looked in to any of them yet. I guess the plan will be to get my mechanic (Ex TVR and various exotica) to do anything routine and go to a specialist for services.
Cheers,

Excellent choice Seal Grey is a lovely colour too.
No heated seats in mine. I’d be interested in what other options you have to see where mine sits as regards spec level.

Pics needed!
Re: Used Boxsters - Talk to me....
I’ve only seen one car which was described as having loads of factory fit options. The popular ones seem to be different alloys, the double-din sat Nav, heated seats, Bose and wind deflector. But I was wondering this myself, I was going to have a look for an original brochure to see what the standard spec and options were. I saw very few with PASM for example but I thought that was certainly a popular option on 911s?

Looks like it might have Xenon headlights if those tiny silver nubbins are the washer jets.

Plus he can make it light, fiddle with it and generally revel in there being no turbos involved!!
Plus I think the 4K would just be for the liners and pistons, I think the bill would be close to double that

Ascender Nice one mate. The 987 still looks fresh and way better looking than the 986.

Did it arrive?
Re: Used Boxsters - Talk to me....
Yep come on - post some pics at least
Re: Used Boxsters - Talk to me....
The lack of pics in here is most disconcerting.
Re: Used Boxsters - Talk to me....
Oh ye of little faith... Work has just gone crazy trying to get a contract signed...
It arrived very, very late on Thursday night
The good... Lots of this will be in direct comparison to the Golf R I guess.
Its very familiar to my old 2.5 but very different. Lovely short shifting gearbox and directness of steering - like a big go-kart. Suspension is nice - you really feel everything on the road, but its not at all crashy or stiff like a lot of things seem to be these days. Inspires confidence on the twisty stuff even on those initial drives.
Steering and braking feels reassuringly weighty. The brakes in particular are nice and progressive. In comparison, the Golf felt like everything was from a computer game - incredibly light (assisted?) braking and steering. So much more feel to the whole experience.
Engine sounds lovely, especially when getting to the red line in second. Standard exhaust sounds good to my ears, I don’t know if a sports one would be too much?
The not so good... roof isn’t working, looks like a failed microswitch which the dealer are going to send up. Looks like an easy thing to replace. That’s kind of it. There’s a few little bits and pieces - 2 really small marks which I’ll get sorted and I need to replace the “Boxster S” on the boot as there’s a crack on the B. That’s kind of it. The sat Nav/stereo thing really does look dated, but in-built ones tend to date quickly so I’ll replace that with something CarPlay-based. In the meantime I’ll just have to burn some CDs for if I get bored of the engine.
They’ve had to order a locking wheel nut and tow-eye, but everything else is there. Oh, the roof needs realigned like you said it probably would Broccers. But I can’t do that until I can get it down...
So pleased to have something like this again, it seems like its been a very long time.
Cheers,
Mike.
