Do dealers drive Jags ? I'd expect them to be more into Range Rovers & big BMs/Mercs.

Do we have any constraining requirements for this car? I’ve picked up comfortable and around £6-£8k? It actually leaves quite a lot 8-)

God I’d love an old XJ. It just seems so unfathomably massive... I am feeling the XF is a bit on the big side already!

They’re absolutely fine, not massive by any means, XJ LWB’s are like parking the QE2 though

That XJ does look quite nice.

Unless you’re parking on the street a lot (i.e. parallel parking in tight spots) then the length doesn’t really matter. If anything it helps with the waftiness.

I think we’ve solved your conundrum 8-)

Is this the same engine?

I think the X-type used Mondeo engines so not the same.

Edit - Incorrect! It is the same engine, but Jaguar's version of a Ford engine.

As has been said already. Supposed to be quite torquey low down so it suits the car, I doubt the V8 would be worse on petrol. 3.0D and V8 might not be in budget but would be my choice of engine.

I had an X-type 3 L and I never found it especially punchy low down, although it was hamstrung to some extent by the old fashioned slush box auto with long gearing.
