First impressions:

The paint is bad but actually better than I thought, mainly. It’s really badly oxidised but not peeling the lacquer like I expected so I should be able to wet sand and polish it to a better finish.

The body and underside are almost 100% rust free, just a couple of bubbles on one wheel arch.

The engine runs really sweetly. Throttle response is instant but it runs out of puff at high revs. It’s hilarious at parking speeds because it chirps the tyres if you’re not careful. The gearbox is clunky going in and out of gear but shifts nicely and kicks down well.

The interior rattles likes, well, a rattle. The build quality reminds me of a Mk2 Cavalier I once bought for £40.

Handling is interesting. Decent levels of grip but vague steering that feels like there either a worn ball joint or slop in the steering box somewhere. It’s not as stiff as expected, either, and gets a bit wallowy at 60-ish.

Tomorrow I’ll give it a proper look over and start building up the list of jobs, but I’m feeling pretty pleased and even MrsREV likes it, saying it’s got loads of potential.

You've changed, Rev.

You've changed.

(I guess the video has auto-clipped the audio, it sounds quite mild to me)

Needs red rear indicator lenses!

It's a very cool car, what's insurance like on US imports?

MrsREV is giving away toys. It’s become a local pastime, presumably to spread COVID-19 via a new and unusual vector.

No, it’s loud. Described by its last American owner as “overwhelmingly loud” 😂

The 60-100 time is ridiculously slow 😂 Most of the time is spent going from 90-100. It definitely doesn’t suit my gearing, or lack of power.

So what I'm hearing is, you need turbos to get over the gearing issues?

Fucking big turbos.
