Who has owned a Supra Turbo?
That wing looked fantastically silly when they were released, but the stats were great and I wanted one.
First one I saw in the flesh was on the M8 - it left an almost-stopped lane full of traffic, pulled partly into the adjacent lane before applying full beans - at which point it hunkered down and fired off at what seemed like an amazing rate at the time.

I owned one in my 205 gti Turbo Technics on the way to Skegness one year
Actually, paying more attention to the pic the one I had a tussle with was the previous shape.

Re: Who has owned a Supra Turbo?
I pulled on one in my mildly tuned 405, he was really struggling to keep up till he realised I wanted to play and then simply buggered off
I didn’t really like them till I read The Jamie P build thread of his 1000hp one.

Re: Who has owned a Supra Turbo?
My best mate had one when we were about 20. At the time it was the coolest thing ever. He's not really into cars so it was more of a posing tool for him rather than driving it properly, but I remember it going like stink and us hitting some serious leptons on the motorway.

When I was 20, there was a woman that lived across the road from my girlfriend that had one. Weirdly, she lived alone in a little semi-detached house and was probably 30-ish at the time and super hot. Every time I saw her she was immaculately dressed but not in a showy way, but was always going out at weird times. Only now as I’m writing this has it struck me that she might’ve been an escort

Supra Turbos Dave, not Escorts.
Re: Who has owned a Supra Turbo?
Mate had 2 - Straight 3l and a twin turbo - the latter running around 500hp at the wheels.
I never drove them but in his hands, they seemed a hell of a lot more nimble that you would thought.
I had a quick chat with an owner at the petrol station a few months ago. He had an almost concourse condition Mk4 Red Twin Turbo - Zero modifications. Standard 320 hp (IIRC), standard exhaust etc.
It was fucking lovely...
Edit - mates Twin Turbo was built by Leon Green - https://www.fastcar.co.uk/cars/1050bhp- ... supra-mk4/

Re: Who has owned a Supra Turbo?
I used to work with a guy who had a really nice one in burgandy red. Some nice mods on it as well. I met him a year or so ago again through work. His son wrote the supra off aquaplaning in the wet.
Re: Who has owned a Supra Turbo?
I used to work with a guy who owned a JDM Aerotop (like Brians but without the crap paint and decals). He tuned it a lot but could never get an accurate reading on the rolling road with the storys of it wheel spinning while showing around 650bhp on the Tuning Japanese place back in the early 2k's. He managed to grenade the engine by lunching turbo at 175mph on the runway at Bruntingthorpe it was after this he had the engine rebuilt, replaced the ceramic turbos with billet ones and the rolling road incident happened. I left the company after this and haven't stayed intouch with him but I know he sold it on and bought something mundane in comparison.
When we had to drive anywhere together it was always him that drove.
There were 2 or 3 guys that went for JDM sportscars at that time (load of cheap imports around) with various tuning going on, I went in the RX-7 Efini and the Supra but missed out on the 300ZX TT and GTO. I'd have any of them now.

Re: Who has owned a Supra Turbo?
A bloke I work with is into them. He has two, possibly three. One of which is completely standard and he reckons could be worth £30-40k, I’ve never checked the prices so I’ve no idea but he’s not one for bigging himself up.
Re: Who has owned a Supra Turbo?
I don't doubt this, the UK, I am pretty sure actually got the best spec as standard (326bhp, Manual and leather) where usually we lagged Japan or the US.
It's quite strange that the NSX and Supra's turned into legends very quickly and had rapidly increasing values, where the RX (the best looking IMO) and the 300ZX (wonder why that V6TT platform didn't tune like the RB26 or 2JZ) were reduced to bargain bin before recently making a bit of a comeback.
Re: Who has owned a Supra Turbo?
The UK Supra got a few other bits like an oil cooler for the gearbox, IIRC, which weren't on the JDM cars.
Still probably the 5th car I'd pick from the ones in the photo above.
Re: Who has owned a Supra Turbo?
My mate still has his UK TT MKIV, running somewhere around 450hp when it was on the road. As said above, they're actually quite agile for such a big barge, and pretty rapid once you get rolling too.
The crude TCS doesn't really do much either, the car just bogs till you get to 60+ and then hooks up and fks off. He used to haul on 600 sports bike on the bypass, just for fun
I drove it, very impressed at the time, muscle-y and GT like..

Re: Who has owned a Supra Turbo?
I had huge lust for these as a teenager. I still remember seeing one launching from a set of lights near school and the junctions on a slight crest - he left several 4-wheel tyre marks as he hoofed it, took off and landed, whilst trying to get the power down.
Re: Who has owned a Supra Turbo?
Despite the lack of silly high level rear wing - I agree.

I spotted that photo shoot!KiwiDave wrote: ↑Thu May 14, 2020 4:35 am One of my best mates here has one at 700bhp. It's properly fucking cool.
His is the black one here
Re: Who has owned a Supra Turbo?
Yeah that is cool!
The owner still dresses like a 90's LA cool kid (read he looks like a berk) but he's a very cool guy and a dear friend. Has one 1 of 8 Lexus IS-F with CCS-P track packs and an awesome NA MX5 as his daily. Knows his cars and a proper OCD engineer by day - all the cars are immaculate. The Supra he bought with his dad's help when he was 18 and they've slowly built it up together - he'll still have it when he's 90.
Also has a brand new 2JZ casually sat in his living room.
