The new mid engined 2020 corvette

Post by integrale_evo »

Have we had a thread on this yet?

It looks like a shite 1980s Ferrari replica based on a Pontiac fiero

Most of the press shots / google image search results are from very flattering angles. Most of the normal shots make it look horribly proportioned.

I think it looks alright.

A 500bhp mid engined sports car for about £50k is a good deal. Apparently it drives pretty well as well.

Weird. It’s not really a corvette, but it’s still one hell of a package though - basically just a better screwed together version of every shed built “Supercar” of the last 20 years.

The C5, C6, and C7 didn’t look great until the higher models came out Z06, ZR1 etc.
It’s as if they get the bigger margin ones right, then dial it back for the launch models to sustain a longer production run.

They’ve been working on mid engined Corvettes on and off since the 80s but they’ve always been scared of replacing the front engined one in case it alienated buyers.

I think it’s good that they’ve taken a chance on it.

It gives the Camaro space to develop without stepping on the Corvette’s toes.

GM lose money on every base model corvette don’t they? That’s how they do it, by just not being greedy like every other manufacturer

Camaro has been canned btw.
How about not having a sig at all?

It’s a shame the practicality has gone - I could put my bike in the back of my (C6) Z06 without removing the wheels.

wtf? I have got to see a photo of that! Surely you had to take at least the front wheel off?

I get the point though - the 944 had a huge boot, and was extremely practical.

Don't love it, don't hate it. If it offers bargain basement performance, then happy days.

It looks like a GTA Ferrari pastiche but wouldn’t say it looks terrible. Great that they’ve built it at all.

So it still looks very awkward to me. integrale_evo definitely was not consulted on the ride height.

UK pricing announced - over £80k - which still buys you a lot of car for the money compared to competitors, but it isn’t the bargain some hoped it might be. Will be interesting to see how it sells.

The steering wheel is ridiculous.

I’d want to see the outside in the flesh, the rear arches look terrible from the front 3/4 angle, but great from the rear 3/4 angle.

I’d like to see one too. Some cars just don’t photograph well.

And yeah - the steering wheel looks awful. Although I‘ve only used the full rotational steering technique for the last few years (ie hold quarter to three and grab another arm of lock to find your hands still at quarter to three - same when you unwind) so I probably wouldn’t notice it’s allegroness.

I wonder if there’s a way of buying a RHD one in the US and importing it over? I can see a few people opting to go that route and tuning it before it leaves the states. Looks to have a lot of potential as a used bargain in 5-10 years time 8-)

It looks bloody awful sadly. Steve Sutcliffe raved about how it drove but for me it's too expensive, too ugly and too cheap looking. Why would you buy that over a 911??

Because it drives well and is over a second quicker to 60? I’m not saying I’d have one at £80k, but in the US where the Corvette is considerably cheaper than the base 911 ($60k vs $100k), it would be almost a no brainer.
