Aftermarket Double din Android Auto choices
Aftermarket Double din Android Auto choices
It's been a very long time since I've had to buy a head unit. Are there forums for this type of thing?
Looking at Pioneer Kenwood Alpine options. Anyone knowledge of these?
Pointers please.

What do you need it to do? Bluetooth? Android Auto? Apple Car Play? Camera compatibility? DAB?
There's tons out there, easier to pick your needs, then go from there. I was planning to buy this for the Evora (wanted AndroidAuto, DAB and Reversing compatibility at the very least) and it gets decent reviews:

They are all pretty much the same inside. Speak to Car Audio Direct, they've been very helpful to me in the past.
Re: Aftermarket Double din Android Auto choices
That's the current choice! But it's 2 years old so probably clunky. I had a mess with one earlier and it seemed ok.
My steering wheel has no controls so no volume dial and tiny buttons is a potential annoyance.
Boxster with Bose requires extra cables to fool fibre optics too.
Thanks Gav will look.
I'm mainly wanting something like is in the Golf as that's really good.

I had the same in my Subaru so I went for the older version of this: https://www.halfords.com/technology/car ... -bluetoothBroccers wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2020 12:01 amThat's the current choice! But it's 2 years old so probably clunky. I had a mess with one earlier and it seemed ok.

The rotary control and track skip buttons are perfect in my use case.
In my truck that has full wheel controls I have a jvc unit which has a push button volume and a home button but a slightly larger screen. The main drawback on my Sony is the single usb input with no fast charge so I can leave a music stick permanently connected for times I don’t want to use my phone, but they may have fixed that now.
Re: Aftermarket Double din Android Auto choices
I am going to go with plan B which is one of these
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223506467476
It replaces the cd changer in the front boot to allow streaming and calls.
Changing the head unit on mine requires 300 quids worth of kit before you even think about the unit

We will see.

Re: Aftermarket Double din Android Auto choices
I had something very similar on mine, and aside from a cumbersome feed through of tracks to the display it worked very well. I’m going back six years though, when I was still using iTunes rather than streaming services.Broccers wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 11:31 am I am going to go with plan B which is one of these

Re: Aftermarket Double din Android Auto choices
Cheers Jim.
My thinking is I wont need a dab aerial either as everything including radio will be streamed through my phone
Ive a couple of these and gave one a whirl today and it was perfect on the way to the audio place. Positioning is spot on and it holds in place well.

Ordered this which might be less fussy day to day.

Re: Aftermarket Double din Android Auto choices
My first Saab 9-3 had some weird optical fibre system that was integrated into the ecu and couldn’t be replaced, even the external amps were linked. I ended up using my phone via the aux in port and made sure that when I replaced it I got a facelift car without the stupid crap. It was unbelievably shit with crossovers for both sets of front speakers in the audio module so you couldn’t use the line level for adding a decent amp and had to use speaker level inputs from the rear full range set to get a feed to run some 6x9s to improve the pitiful bass. The Subaru stuff may have been worse but at least it was standard so you can rip it all out and replace it.Broccers wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 11:31 am I am going to go with plan B which is one of these

Re: Aftermarket Double din Android Auto choices
Yes youre very limited with this too. However I think the standard Bose is quite good. The saving can go on making the car louder which kinda makes spending lots on this area pretty pointless anyway
