The simple answer is 5 door was more money. My little boy can almost climb into his seat in the back himself now and I rarely have more than me and him in my car (we use the 3 series for family stuff) so I wasn’t fussed enough to pay more!

Sounds reasonable. Same here I guess - I can get the kids in the back of the Megane but the Yeti gets picked more of the time for that stuff, unless I just fancy driving the Megane somewhere other than just to the station and back.
Left over crest; tightens.

Doom blue. Are you Shockers in disguise

In all seriousness that's a good shout and should be a reasonably interesting.

I like what VW have done with the Golf GTI styling wise, since the introduction of the Mk7. Sharp design IMO.

That blue suits it perfectly too 😎

Could be the last golf available as a 3 door too, so good choice. We never found three door cars any more of a faff than four / five.

Good choice Rich...

Mrs had a Mk6 manual and I loved driving it. It reminded me of an 80's snarling rally car  . Yeah it might not have the same performance as your BM but you can still very easily get to "Get into Trouble" speeds which is the entry level measure to a good performance car IMO.

(and and you're absolutely right - when the nipper can climb into the back then 3 doors are fine)

I thought VW had already dropped the 3-dr body; they seem to have dropped the normal GTI and only offer the GTI Performance now. I take it this is a stock car, pre-registered?

😎

To clarify, I mean it was in stock, nothing to do with the specification, which is standard. Bone standard.

I'd never've thought you'd had it that long, you'll be back in one before you know it.

I got the paperwork through today, it says the Golf will be 1st registered on the 13/12 (not 31/10 like the guy said??), so I’m going to be in “the beast“ (Corsa) for a few more weeks by the looks of it.

It is proving the point that I do enjoy driving still though, it’s an absolute shitbox, but I’m still having a laugh pootling along. I don’t believe the 15.5 second 0-60 claim, it can’t be that slow - but admittedly it does take a fair bit of space to test it... And it doesn’t seem to use fuel, which is obviously alien to me.

It's one of the worst cars I've driven. The one I drove was so bad I ended up getting a speeding ticket in it, just to make me dislike it even more.

I currently also have one. Christ on a bike. It's like going back in time 30yrs to when engines generated lots of noise but zero power. The driving position is utterly appalling with absurdly long pedal travel. I don't know what the steering wheel is connected to but it doesn't feel like the wheels. The column stalks point about 4inches too high unless you drive with hands at 5past11 and are absurdly massive. And why does it have heated seats and steering wheel but no nav? very odd.

Oh and no 6th gear. I thought even boggo cars had a 6th gear these days. Cue 3500rpm at 70 with no sign of any further power reserves to wring out
