And now a third demand for my phone number, from a zero-feedback ebay account created yesterday. This is mental.

“What’s your phone number”

“Send me your phone number”

Variations on that. No hello/please/thank you. Overnight I’ve had two more. I’m starting to think they’re bots that are simply harvesting phone numbers for some other purpose.

Based on my last experience they're wanting to dodge fees, etc. If you try eBay will block it or warn you about incurring costs.

Yeah. Mea culpa :(

WBAC pissed me off yesterday so I needed to remind myself just how bad the alternatives are.

Since my last post today, I've had two more messages from zero-feedback members:

"Send me your number"

John - no swaps yet, that will be amusing though. My bet is they want a straight swap for a much older and very knackered Audi.

DJ - it's on a classified listing that I've already paid my £19.99 for, so there's no scope for dodging fees here. I reckon they're just timewasters.

eBay, FB Marketplace...a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

As I mentioned to Mike, PH & owners forums have always served me well.

Swap you for a Makita battery drill, no battery though. Cost me £250 5 years ago so I’m robbing myself

You shouldn't stereotype but...... that seems to tick all the boxes of the kind of person I was expecting.
I've said it before, I've said it again - you go over the Owlcoates roundabout from the leeds side to the bradford side, and suddenly it's like you're in the wild west.

I've never, ever seen such a stark change in attitude of people, driving etc than around here - and I spent a lot of time working in North London where you take the wrong side turn you go from leafy nice street to Rape Alley.

Fucking bizarre.

Took the Fabia out for a run after it’s been on the trickle charger and not moved for about 6 weeks (edit: make that 8). Reversing off the drive I heard a bit of noise from the front left. Put it down to a bit of rust on the discs. Go to pull away and the dash lights up like a Christmas tree - red Check Engine flashing and solid yellow ABS and TC lights on. Brakes feel fine and car had been warming up nicely on the driveway. Go for a spin, all seems well.

Get home, lights reappear after switching the ignition off and on again. Try Car Scanner app with my Bluetooth dongle but no codes displayed.

Also when coming to a rest at home and parking - involving turning the wheel at engine idle speed, I get another light on the dash and the power steering stops working (this is fine when restarting again). I’ve had that a couple of times before.

Oh, and the front electric windows have stopped working but that happens every winter.

From my recent ebay experiences it's the scammers who are diving in early from newly created accounts - like you guessed probably some bot or automation doing it. They should disappear quite soon and give way to genuine enquiries.

Selling stuff on FB Marketplace is a joy too, I especially love the two word "best price" messages, I immediately match their energy and reply with the full asking price.
