The help section suggests we can then directly load pics to our posts?

Nice idea, but that presumably relies on Matty's server space to host them. And I doubt he's making money out of this, so it may be too much to ask.

123kb works

ETA: As Jobbo says though Matty, I don’t want this taking up space on your server/pc/cloud/whatever. So does it? :D

Ian's picture is proof you should turn the function off, Matt

Just trying to find the limit Jobbo. My normal pics are too large! ;)

Was that picture taken with a potato?

I can increase the attachment size - it's currently set to 256KB with each user having a limit of 50MB. I can increase that, if needed, but I'd rather the attachments were used for the odd file to save smashing my allocation (the Lupo forum does that for me!) so at max I wouldn't want to go past 512KB....

Maybe using a third party would be better then. Can someone explain why your pic is a third the size (data-wise), but much better resolution?

Having just bought a 48TB server purely for hosting photos I can feel Matty's pain :D

It's a shame the forum software can't automatically resize/adjust quality of photos to fit within 512KB (or whatever) to save people from having to edit their files before uploading. Or can it?

Pretty sure you could slice off terabyte over iSCSI for Matty and our benefit ;)

Just never, ever turn it off.

(in all seriousness, presumably if someone could supply some stable storage (arse end of an S3 bucket etc) it could be mounted to wherever the forum looks for attachments?)

I'd be very happy to donate a TB to the cause. If I knew how to do it securely without worrying about an hack on here managing to inject something nasty into my box! Which, sadly, I don't. Data's dead cheap though, any one of you could get 100GB in the cloud for about £2 a month.

Yeah, I think something like an AWS S3 storage block or similar would be a better idea than something hanging off someone's personal (or worse, work) storage device.

Still, it sounds like Mattys got it covered to a reasonable degree for the moment - if we need more space, a simple OwnCloud setup spun up in a VM or container could easily provide more (and if Matty has his own rackspace, I'm sure someone could donate a couple of spare disks, etc.)

I can point attachments to another host...but for now I think we're in a decent place.

Ideally (eventually) I'd move this off PhpBB and onto something "proper" like IPB or vBulletin, both of which have much better feature sets (I use IPB on ClubLupo, but it's $200 + $50/year).

We can cover those costs easily between us...

I suppose we can look at the options - other commenting that FaceyB was more mobile friendly have a point, so it'd be interesting to see what the current flavour of the month is with desktop-suitable, but mobile friendly forums.

Things like the ability to upload images direct from the camera etc, I mean, is that even a thing on forums yet or did social media divert attention away from such magixx?

Isn't uploading from a camera to FB or Twitter only via the App though?

Could try using Tapatalk? I think I need to enable the integration on this side.
