A forum full of nerds, one of the biggest CPU launches in a while an no mention?

New AMD's launched yesterday, some properly beastly multicore's. My old 2500k has had its day, so I was planning to upgrade, possibly for the 3700x. I've noticed the new X570 boards are a big pricey (£250-£700!) due to the new PCIe 4.0, so I'll probably stick to the previous gen.

The 2600x for £188 looks to be a steal for entry level gaming/usage.

Yes, 3700x is looking tempting for a home/work tower that does a bit of gaming too.

How straightforward is it to get a previous board that will work with the new CPUs? I don't have an old Ryzen just hanging about to flash to a new BIOS.

edit: looks like some boards like the MSI ones have ways to flash without a CPU fitted. Happy days!

Seems some of the mobos used for reviews are getting a bios updated as, er, MSI and AMD kinda cocked up the turbo boosting behaviour.

The CPUs were nipping on the heels of Intels gear (while drawing a lot less power in some instances) so it'll be interesting to see if the increased boost clocks make a noticeable difference.

Good to see AMD properly back in the game though.

Yeah, might need to be careful with that - could just be anecdotal, but Reddit claims people have killed the new chips by trying to plug them into older boards that have yet to be updated...

As you say, many won't boot to update without a chip in there to begin with!
