Is there a way to alter the default setting on a laptop? At the moment it's always off on startup when previous machines have been on so I'm forever starting to type things then realising nothing is happening! I've been into the bios but I can't see anything relating to it.

It will be in the bios somewhere, or uefi settings.

there might be a setting in the bios.

Already tried that, didn't work.

Step 1. Reboot your computer.
Step 2. on the password screen, press num lock
Step 3. Verify num lock is on by typing in password box.
Step 4. Reboot Computer... from reboot icon in lower left.
Now when computer boots, num lock is on.


Some say it's WIN10 fast start buggering it up.

Press Win + X and click on Control Panel
Click on Power Plan
Now click on Choose what the power buttons do on the left side panel
Now select Change settings that are currently unavailable
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended)
That’s it. Now after shutting down and reboot your NumLock should retain the last configuration.
