Hallway viewing

Post by ste »

Want to replace the TV in the lounge. Doesn't need to be the very best spec ever, we currently have a 32" Sony LCD that's a few years old. Ideally I don't want anything with a cabinet that's much larger.

I think this 40" Samsung is a very similar dimension, but obviously has a much smaller bezel:

Any issue with that particular telly / anything obviously better than that I should be looking at? Not looking for the very best, just an improvement. Will have something 'better' when I build the TV room.

Are you looking at one of these?

I use a very similar one as a monitor. It's fine.

Hangabout, my Sonos requires HDMI ARC (or failing that, optical which is what I'm using on the Sony). That Samsung doesn't appear to have either, or am I missing it?

Ahhh, the full manual says it's got both. Neither mentioned in the Specs on the website though.

We have the 55 in the same range and it's brill. Built in utoob, amazon, steamcast, nas streaming, so does away with all the peripherals. Noice.

Went to John Lewis and got scope creep slightly. Ended up with the ‘same’ telly but a 43.

Review: seems alright.

Decided I wanted a bigger screen after seven years with my old 40" Samsung. Decided on this 55" LG after budget creep set in.

Just got it set up and trying to figure out how to get it to sync with the sky remote and sound bar. Three separate controllers is tedious..

You sync the sky remote to it. It’s in the settings somewhere and you just select the tv make and model and it links them.
How about not having a sig at all?

Yup, I was having a senior moment and trying to control the sound bar via the TV remote, the SKY remote had better results. Still can't seem to get the TV to wake the sound bar up but I can live with that.

Did you connect the soundbar to the ARC HDMI?

Actually no, optical and standard HDMI. Should I have?

The soundbar should automatically turn on and off through the tv if you do.

I'll give it a whirl tomorrow night. It does drop to standby when I switch the TV off already, just doesn't wake up yet. Cheers.

ARC is pretty good when it works

It’s one of those techs that isn’t as good as it could be though, because it’s not 100% reliable

You may have to turn it on in the TV menu - i did.

It also now means I can ask Google to turn the telly on now
The Evo forum really is a shadow of its former self. I remember when the internet was for the elite and now they seem to let any spastic on

I'll have a look yeah, ARC output isn't activating it currently, but is putting it on standby.

Still amazes me that they didn't add the switching signal to hdmi from the outset. Scart could do it as standard decades ago
