Telly recommendations

Post by DeskJockey »

The parental unit's hallway needs a new screen to replace his glitching 42" Samsung one.

He wants a bigger screen, but most importantly sound has to be good. He's hard of hearing, doesn't remember/want to wear his hearing aids very often and won't pay to upgrade to the new ones that can connect to the telly to provide sound (so he just has it on silly loud instead).

He has a Panasonic 5.1 surround setup (one of the all-in-one type kits) that while working fine, can't be adjusted sufficiently for him.

Buy any 4K tv in budget and a sound bar. Decent in built speakers died with with the CRT, naturally having a tv as wide as a gnats penis doesn’t lend itself well to having decent speakers.
How about not having a sig at all?

For a man old enough to need and to not remember his hearing aids, I suspect the picture quality will be adequate whatever you buy

I’d be more interested in the user-interface and the sound

Sound - get a sound bar. That way it’ll sound clearer at all volumes, meaning he might not need it quite so loud, but if he does, you won’t loose as much fidelity

UI - anything new from a sensible brand would be best

He's put it on hold as he can get a subsidy for new hearing aids next spring. That'll get him Bluetooth enabled ones.

Did find an interesting company called ZVox that specialise in soundbars for the hearing impaired. Sadly US only.
