Camera thread
Thinking about a Canon M6/M100 as half way house, rather than dragging a DSLR and carry a cheap Canon IXUS compact (when on holiday / road trips / car shows / functions)
What say you?
Just buy an iPhone? (FWIW currently I have a cheap phone - does the job but the camera is rubbish)

Re: Camera thread
Kin take a look in the motorbike thread - last page or two. All the photos in the Dropbox link were taken with my Samsung S8+.
I just don't think anything but high-end cameras justify carrying a separate device for everyday photos. So a DSLR and a decent phone ftw.

Cheers, will check them out when I get home.
I’ve been admiring some great pics from forum members (Evostick etc), just can’t believe how good quality can be had from a phone camera.
Hence unsure which way to go.
FYI I’d like to ditch the DSLR altogether (it’s a really old / basic one anyway)

Re: Camera thread
Unless you're specifically into photography, a good phone is all you need mate, seriously.
Re: Camera thread
This. And you capture the best photos at unexpected moments which is why it’s great to have a smartphone with a good camera.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Camera thread
The only reason I’d really bother with my SLR is for something like a safari with a big lens, or if I specifically want to play with it.
It is fun being able to control everything, but most of the time a decent phone will take a great “snap”.

JLIC
The camera(s) is currently the thing phone manufacturers develope hardest to try and differentiate themselves from the competition
For that reason, the cameras on top end phones are now amazing. Easy to use too. Also, for most people, their phone is with them all the time, so it’s where when you want to take a picture AND the photo is then on a connected device, allowing you to Instajam it to the tweetbooks immediately and effortlessly
Only downside is, most phones won’t have a proper zoom lens.
Re: Camera thread
I was amazed at how shit my Canon G11 is at video compared to my phone.
Re: Camera thread
Or just move closer to the subject with your not-shit new smartphone
Re: Camera thread
Then avoid trips that involve lion safaris.
Do I have to do ALL the thinking on this forum, ALL the time.?

Re: Camera thread
These new super duper phones are so damn big.
iPhone SE are nice but they are two and a half yrs old so new one must be round the corner.
Meantime I’ll go lion spotting with my pinhole camera.

Re: Camera thread
Get a X or 8 plus and then a DSLR if you think the iphone isn't quite cutting the mustard.

This is in no way an Android vs iPhone thing, but I've been very impressed with the camera on my Galaxy S8.
it's only a simple, single lens job, but it's just really good at taking photos.
I don't find myself fiddling around with them afterwards, they just look quite nice straight from the camera.
