Cheers for the heads up, got it while I was in town yesterday. The whole printing off voucher to get discount in-store is just silly and unnecessary, the old system was perfectly fine.

I bought mine from the Legoland Discovery Centre in Birmingham; since they're Merlin rather than Lego owned (though Lego have bought Merlin, so expect that to become an irrelevant distinction) they can't access the VIP points so they just give you a 5% discount if you show proof you're a VIP; an e-mail will do.

Haven't yet used the VIP points under the new system but it does look a faff. However, being able to just tell them my e-mail address in a Lego Store on the other side of the world and get $10 off seemed pretty insecure before!

Barry or/and Simon will correct me but I think you can ask Lego to send you missing parts (even though it might have been your own fault  ). The Stranger Things set is cracking, need to find time to build it.

Lego are apparently very good indeed at sending out missing parts. I have never tried it; I've never actually had a missing part. The few times I've thought I had, I went back through the instructions and realised I'd built it incorrectly (quite easy to check this now you have the parts box for each step in pretty much every set's instructions).

I was missing a piece on the technic ocean explorer set, I just filled in a form on the Lego website of what I wanted and it came in the post free of charge

Indeed, they take it quite seriously if parts are missing by all accounts. It's called "customer service" or something. I can't recall having a part genuinely missing, like Jobbo said, it's usually a mis-build earlier on.

Always worth contacting customer service in these circumstances. You'd be surprised how far some are willing to go to help / gain positive Social Media coverage / avoid negative Social Media coverage etc

I lost a small Plastic Clip on my 15 year old Toro Lawnmower which meant you couldn't lift the front (Turning at the end of each run) without having to re-attach the wheels. I e-mailed Toro in the States, just to see if anything could be done. The very nice admin responded and ask for my name and address and 2 weeks later, an entire new Front Wheel Assembly arrived.

Looking forward to that Land Rover Technic set. That's Christmas sorted.

Argos have a couple of bargain sets on offer currently - 50% off the Technic Porsche 911 RSR and the Ninjago Destiny's Bounty ship. There's also 25% off the Technic Chiron, though I've seen that cheaper previously and won't bite until it's sub-£200. RSR though seems popular on here and it's now only £65.

New Star Destroyer set announcement due today. Leaked pictures are out there, and it looks impressive.

In other news I actually started building a recent purchase, the Harley Creator set. Nothing too exciting in the build so far but I think the finished item will look good 8-)

Much less pieces than the Falcon which is the same price and more functionality.

Insane prices, they're toys not high quality display models

Arguably they're both, as these UCS sets aren't aimed at children really, hence the UCS moniker. Lego are going after the collector/long term adult fans (with money to burn). Can't say I blame them, I'd have them all if I could justify the outlay and had some way of displaying them! Long pondered the idea of a glass coffee table with the Falcon inside. This SSD mode is impressive in size too.

Our Head of Models (Lego) has requested a set from Billund, hopefully they'll let us have one 8-)

Oh definitely and I think it’s a very lucrative business model for Lego. I think the thing that keeps bringing people back as an adult is because building a lego model is a complete switch off from the rest of the world taking them back to a time when life was far more simple and which adult doesn’t want that once in a while?

£600? Sounds like value for money when you get massive lego set, several proper switch off hours and something cool to show for it at the end.

I like the gingerbread house. Might get that for the family to build over Xmas rather than the usual Calendar.

The official video for the Gingerbread House is a bit creepy

Will definitely be getting the Defender and Gingerbread, definitely not the crane.
