Narrow DoF Video
Narrow DoF Video
I'm seeing this more and more on the Telly now - mainly in US sports TV. Two places that stand out is in the Golf - Player only in focus as they walk off the Tee and also, on the Basketball in post game interviews - Player in focus, everything else blurred.
Is this new technology or have I just not noticed it before ??

Re: Narrow DoF Video
Do you think it's genuine small DoF from a wide aperture or digital filter ala phone camera portrait mode?
Re: Narrow DoF Video
IMO that’s genuine shallow DoF from a wide aperture lens with a close subject and distant background.
Giveaway for me is the assistant that appears slightly behind him who is slightly softer focus than he is. CGI shallow depth of field would either have them both the same level of focus or one completely out.

Re: Narrow DoF Video
I don’t know. It looks a bit false - like the latter. Regardless of the method, it’s presumably to prevent people in the background doing shizzle on camera, or - far more importantly - showing a product that is a competitor to a sponsor.

But disappointingly not many bokeh balls to allow us to work out the number of blades in the lens…
