Amazon Fire Stick

Post by JonMad »

I have Prime. I already watch Prime Video and iPlayer, All4, Netflix through apps on my Samsung TV.

I listen to Amazon Music through Echo Dot, though don’t have one in the same room as the TV, but do have a decent BT speaker that lets me play Echo Dot music in that room.

I have a ChromeCast to send some stuff to my TV.

They’re cheap on Blank Friday but does one provide anything I’m missing?

I'd say as long as your TV streaming apps still work then no.
But we've now got 2 to update TVs that have perfectly fine screens but apps that are now non-functional.

Are they intuitive to use ?

My wife won't(can't!) use Chromecast and that may be a solution rather than replacing a dumb telly in the den/office.

Yep, they're striaghtforward to use although searching for specifics is clunky. Your favourites appear in big chunky icons you just select and click with the remote. I've taped over the microphone of our remote on principle.

I just bought another couple of roku expresses, been impressed with the first one I bought.

Currently £17.99 from Argos for the 2017 model which includes a mains adapter. Can't tell any other differences between it and the current version except the newer one is a fraction smaller.

Another fan of the Roku Express here as well. Plus it ensures you keep out of any potential future bullshit between Amazon, Google and Apple.

Yes, I don't particularly like amazon or google as companies so wanted to avoid both.

I don't know if the others do it, but using the mobile app in headphone mode is very handy.

Fvcking Amazon.... every single media app on the Apple TV follows the well-established framework of how you navigate through their menus, sections etc and what sounds you expect to hear as you so so.

Not Amazon. They refuse to conform with every single other app and have to be that bit different which makes using their app a PITA.

And don't even get me started on the NowTV app which hasn't been updated since 1998.
Cheers,

Mike.
