Dad has an old Sony Vaio that is basically fucked.
Based on my wife's Asus ZenBook flying along with 8GB RAM and a 128GB SSD, he needs more storage so I've recommended a 512GB SSD and 8GB RAM.
This one came up with that spec. Any cheaper/better alternatives? Anything else I should care about?

There's no link.
What's the resolution on the screen? I'd want FHD as a minimum, but it depends on what he's doing with it.

You can't see an Amazon link? Odd.
I subsequently found a review that suggests this one is not great for photos, and quite a lot of what he wants to do is look at, if not edit, photos.

It says it has an FHD IPS touchscreen.

At that budget it looks good, HP stuff always feel well made and premium compared to similar priced machines.

1080p on a 15" screen should be great for that ?JonMad wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 10:37 am You can't see an Amazon link? Odd.

This Huawei one gets fairly good reviews, both the 'Trusted Reviews' link and on Amazon. There are 14" and 15" versions at £549 with a 256HD SSD. Only the 14" version comes with the 512GB SSD, which I think is worthwhile for £50 extra.

So you're deciding between "sub-average" and "mediocre" displays
I've no experience with Huawei laptops, so I would go for the HP. As Carlos says they tend to feel premium.

HP also has a touchscreen, is a bigger screen which might suit my Dad's ageing eyes - he doesn't lug it around all over the place - and is £50 cheaper, so probably gets the nod.
