Barn find (an actual one) 1944 dodge pickup for sell

Post by integrale_evo »

Loads of my grandads old farm stuff is being auctioned off next Saturday at Mendham in Suffolk.

The most awesome item being his 1944 dodge. Ex government, privately owned since 1947 with logbook, please link, repost, pass on details to anyone or anywhere who might be interested.

That’s awesome.

Right up there with Jon’s Film Prop purchases... 8-)

Very tempted, it's just too big, and as the farm and barns are for sale I won't have anywhere to store it. I've already said if I think it's too cheap I'll buy it myself and attempt to get it running, give it a wipe over and advertise it properly instead of just lumping it in with a farm sale.

Looks like it’s in really good shape for an original truck, is it as solid as it looks in the pictures?

I’ll share it on a local American car group I’m in.

It looks ridiculously solid to me, patches of light surface corrosion here and there as you'd expect, but I've not found and proper bubbles or holes.

Limited to what I can see of the chassis, but can see a lot of the nearside rail from behind the cab back to the axel and it's still got most of its original paint. I'm pretty confident it would make it back on the road with only a mechanical overhaul, wheels /tyres and no welding.

We'll see what happens when it's pulled out into the open.

Cheers for posting the link 👍🏻

I wouldn't be able to get the truck for free, and pretty sure it's over 3.5ton so would need an hgv licence if I ever wanted to drive it!

Not if you passed your test after 1997.

I pressed mine in 1997 so am in the weird area where I can't drive a 7.5 tonner or tow anything more than a total of 3.5t, but still have a paper licence.

I don't know that we're going to get the truck out in time, it might have to be sold where it sits which is a shame as I'd love to see it in the light.

We got the old David brown 25D started yesterday with a squirt of easystart and some jumpleads.

I found the wheels for the paraffin cropmaster but accidentally wide tracked it by putting the back ones on the wrong sides. We've not tried to start it yet, but it turns over by hand with the crank handle.
