Nothing to do with balance. Cars produce lift because air has to take a longer journey to flow over the top than to go underneath, they're basically a shit wing. Presumably they feel without the wing that it gets too light on its feet.

No you don't, it's just something that has always struck me as peculiar.

Obviously it works and you don't have wings flailing around
