For Sells: Caterham R400

Post by duncs500 »

Long shot, but anyone know anyone who wants to buy my 7?

We're moving house and stamp duty is a bitch! Been advertising a while but not much interest and I need to shift it.

I think the price is fairly competitive, the other two R400 K-series on Boatshoes are on for £32k and £25k (leggy). So whoever buys it should end up with a bit of appreciation (if they have the time to find a buyer for it of course!).

Serviced and MOT'd a few weeks ago.

Forum discount considered. ;)

I can confirm that this is a bloody lovely machine. Duncs very kindly let me drive it a few years ago and it is right up there, with the best cars I've ever driven 😎

PS - I used to think Stamp Duty was a bitch until Scotland replaced it with LBTT.

Mazda gone? I think I missed that you'd sold it.

We could have done a cracking p/x! Once we move I'm going to be itching for a cheap way back into a fun car.

Extra discount for you Jobbo. ;)

I'll be getting something again after the sting of the move settles down I'm sure. I'll just be moving into the day dreaming phase for a little while.

I should ask Scott F if he fancies it, he was thinking about 7s at some point, I'm sure he could have his fun with it for a summer and flip it again for profit if he didn't want to keep it. :-D

You can't be far from trade money there, have you tried a specialist ?

Duncs, I know Caterham geeks get a bit sniffy about cars which started life as race cars; was yours an R400 from new and only ever a road car? Make sure you state that in the ad.

It is indeed a lovely machine but I’ve got a toy in the garage now, there’s no way I can add another one.

GLWTS Duncs.

Having just serviced it S&C saw it advertised and contacted me offering to sell it, but they'll just give low money for selling it to the same market. They don't pay up front, just sell it on your behalf. Struggling to see the benefits unless I'm naive about how much Caterham buyers care about getting it from a stealer.

I thought it was fairly common with more expensive cars. The dealer has to offer some sort of warranty and can possibly arrange finance which a private seller wouldn't.

Depends what their commission is, but could be worth it to save having tonnes around with buyers yourself.

Sale or Return. Quote common now, but not without its risks. Fair few horror stories about it on PH, but dealers like it as they can stock their forecourt without stumping up the cash.

Dealers selling as agent for a private seller don’t give buyers the same legal protection. Not sure how widely known this is, but for anyone buying, specifically ask a dealer if it’s Sale or Return, agency sale or similar rather than their own stock.

Bump. Reduced to £22k, but at this point even a bag of Revels would be tempting!

Cheers mate. I've started talking to dealers about a straight sale as some will do it, first offer is shocking! Might have no choice though... see what the others come back with.
