Reversing is definitely a challenge !

There's Electric Jockey Wheel Mover now so you'll never have to reverse with the van again...

I refused to mince-out and use one of them! One of the best part of caravaning is marvelling at the reversing skills of some, and pissing yourself at the lack of reversing skills of others. These electric mover things have ruined that.

My wife's granny used the mover thingy. Quite useful for parking the caravan when you're 90 and well shy of five feet tall.

I've had a caravan for ages now myself and my parents had a tourer since I was about 5.

It's easy to just stick it on the back of the car and get away on a Friday after work for the weekend, even if you don't go far you still feel like you're on holiday.

Get a cheap one and see if you like it, can always flog a cheap 2k van back on easily enough.

Mine has fold out bunk beds from the side dinette, a proper end washroom with a full size lined shower cubicle and wardrobe, a 6''1 x 7 bed that is made up in the lounge area and space for 4 more in the awning annexes, so entry of sleeping options.

I've towed with a 406 V6, 9-5 Aero and 2 Volvo T5s, doesnt have to be a slow or boring tow car, nor cost the earth!

I think you either love or hate caravans, I'm 31 now and still the only person in my group of friends with one!

We've got a motorhome but similar lifestyle really and we did have a caravan for a couple of years around ten years ago.

We've visited loads of places that we wouldn't have if we didn't have it. As well as the usual beach holidays it's great just to be able to take off for a long weekend, as already mentioned. BBQ and a cold drink in the summer evenings takes some beating in my opinion. Also great if you're into outdoor stuff, I've always got either the mountain bike or CX bike in the motorhome garage dependent on where we are heading. A group of us did the 'ard rock mountain bike race camping in motorhomes and caravans which was an excellent weekend. Waking up fresh and early with a two minute walk to the start and then collapsing into bed following the after race party

So, yes, buy a caravan

My mate bought one, stored it for a year, broke his Galaxy pulling it, bought a Volvo V70 to pull it, stored it some more, repaired it when a tree branch hit it during a storm, paid more to store it inside, bought an XC90, installed a Volvo towbar to pull it, never did, stored it some more, then sold it as they found they didn't enjoy camping as much as they thought they would. Hate to think how much money that bloody thing cost them!

Probably get them to set it up somewhere for us (at any site within 10 miles, as they offer). I doubt I could use trying out a caravan as an excuse to buy a new car

I must say the older I get the more I think about how appealing a hymen would be. It would have to be a motorhome though as I don’t particularly like towing long distances.
