I remembered that my phone has portrait mode

Then I remembered why I don’t use it.

Portrait mode works best (unsurprisingly) for portraits...

I think it works great, it turns the average snap into something far more appealing. It doesn’t work for every situation, but what does?

It doesn’t work in your picture either. Look at the outline of your son’s left ear to his chin, and the back of his tshirt against the green hedge.
It looks fine at a glance but spend more than a second looking at it and it looks like a crap photoshop attempt.

i don’t expect SLR level control from a phone camera, it’s a clever bit of software and a bit of hardware to fake it. I think it does a great job of turning snaps into nice photos. Of course it’s not as good as an SLR with manually adjustable aperture!

I reckon they will have got it working pretty flawlessly by the time the next iPhone is released. Until then I call bullshit on the photos Apple released originally when advertising the feature which showed near SLR like quality.

Re portrait modes, from what I've seen/read I'm more impressed with Google's implementation that only uses a single lens camera and then software.

It's not perfect, but results generally seem to be better than on iOS.

That looks lovely.

My sister used to live in Morzine and I've always fancied going to the Alps in summer, as I've only ever been in winter.

Still not got round to it though 😀

The Alps in summer are awesome.

We spent a week in St Foy and loved it.

Not brilliant I know but I like the colours of the summerhouse against the snow.

A handy tip for shooting in snow is to over expose a little.

Cameras meter for mid grey, so when the scene is almost all white, they under expose.

Manually knocking the exposure up 1/3 of a stop works wonders in bringing back the whiteness

Can you do that on a phone?

Right click on the image and open in new tab - check the url and it will give you a clue.
The Evo forum really is a shadow of its former self. I remember when the internet was for the elite and now they seem to let any spastic on

I find your constant unrealistic demands and complaining attitude to be quite tiresome, Richard
