So sorry to hear that Dave, especially after all you've gone through to this point, what awful luck and terrible news.
Cheers,

Mike.

Something in my feckin eye now

You have my absolute sympathies - I was in the unenviable position of losing 2 dogs in quick succession back in 2019, Newton my 9yr old black lab in late January and in May, Jackson who was his immediate replacement died at just shy of 6 months - both put to sleep from heart related issues. We were all there for Newton but my wife and little girl couldn't be in there for Jackson so was just me and the vet at 6am on a Saturday morning. Both times I was a howling, snotty, puffy faced mess and i'm not ashamed to admit it. Both are fertilising the garden now and I still go talk to them occasionally.

The universe is a cruel and unforgiving place :x

Shit happens as we all know, people have had this with multiple dogs, poorly kids etc. He is and has been a great dog and he will go in a painless relaxed way so I’m looking at those good points.

Thanks for all the good wishes !!!!

Sorry to hear this Dave. Being with him when he passes on will be heart breaking, but you'll always be glad you where with him during his last moments. All the best to you and your family

Ah mate, gutted to hear that.

On the plus side, you gave him the best life possible.
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.

It was all as good as can be, a beautiful cloud free sunny day, he got a lot of fuss, popped a song on from an album I listened to a lot, he was laying down eyes closed as I stroked him between the eyes and he just went.

How vets etc do that as part of their jobs I have no idea.

OK - so our first dog joined us over Xmas - Millie will be 13 wks this weekend and is a cross between one silly designer dog and another and I literally don't care at all! Half Cavapoo (so Cavalier Spaniel crossed with Poodle) and half Cockapoo (Cocker Spaniel crossed with Poodle) she's pretty smart, enjoys digging everything up and is very much in the 'destroy everything' phase currently. Handy at greeting people with her teeth...

But for the other 80% of the time she's just insufferably cute and lovable and a great dog. Having not done this before I'm just hoping this is who she's going to turn into as she gets older.
