Have a couple of these on my eBay ‘watch list’. I think they look great and I like the idea of a junior ‘homologation special’. Flawed engine puts me off unfortunately.

I always quite like the 320si - it’s never going to be properly special though - too slow.

I always wanted one too, supposed to be fun, but still too slow really.

Oh, and have a habit of cracking cylinder liners don't they?

You're asking a question about a 320 SI Si si?

A curio for sure. I think you'd need to have a few cars to find a place for it, for most it's too fragile for a daily, too slow for a weekender.

Yeah; engine mounted low and back, but only 170bhp. :? Missed the mark.

If only it’s 230-240bhp and reliable, it’d be a great junior M-car (it’d probably be £15k rather than £5k).

My neighbour had a new one for a company car for a couple of years and he moaned about it constantly. According to him it was under powered and the worst ride of any car he'd owned. Looked nice though.

So how is it any different to a 320 M sport? Just hard springs?

Coaster said earlier, engine mounted in a different position along with a chassis setup to accommodate.

It is a curiosity but I can't imagine it would be a must try car for many people.

Would probably be pretty lively with a wee turbo conversion but not a good idea with weak injectors and cylinder liners

Bog standard M-sport chassis setup - mechanical changes were limited to the engine, wheels and brakes as far as I can tell.

I don't see the appeal - it might be a homologation special, but it's not like it has thinner glass, lightened panels, different bodywork or anything notable, and while it might be a 'special' engine, 85bhp/litre is hardly pushing the boundaries of what's possible. Slightly less weight over the nose and less unsprung weight from the fancy wheels might improve the wheel control and ride, but given the reputation E90 M-sports have for riding like utter garbage I can't see it making a huge difference.

Honestly don't see the appeal.
