Finally got round to watching 1917.

Overall it's damn good, the first half was amazing, the second half tailed off a bit but still good. The tension for the first 45 minutes was intense!

Solid 9/10
Spoiler
Though I wondered if the whole "brother" story was a little unnecessary, kind of felt like they levered it in to be more like Saving Private Ryan. I think it would have been better without that.

"Tommen" from GoT was a great bit of casting though, really brought home how young and normal the men were in those ridiculous situations.

If you're on a gangster tip, The Godfather is on iPlayer at the mo.

I know what you mean. I think there might have been a little bit more ‘noble’, bleak and probably more real if they were just 2 lads going to try to save other bunch of lads. There must have been so many fools errands run over the war. It would have highlighted the futility of it all.

Still this family angle was what Mendes wanted to portray and ultimately, doesn’t distract too much

And also, The Godfather - what the actual fuck...:o Dare I ask, seen part 2?

Do, you won’t regret it.

Part 3 is shite, mainly due to Copola’s daughter but watch it to complete the circle.

I watch pt2 at least 4 or 5 times a year. We got a new SkyQ box last week and it was the first thing I downloaded...

I've never seen it either. I've seen bits, and it bored the shit out of me tbh.

Bits without any context would indeed be boring.

The first two Godfathers are probably Coppolla’s best work.

They’re much slower movies than the likes of Goodfellas but they’re very good.

It's by no means Scorsese's best but it's not his worst either.
I agree, it's not amazing. I didn't sit and watch it all none stop, but had breaks over an evening. It just fizzled and could have been an hour shorter.

Yeah, the single cut thing is a pretty powerful way to keep attention. It's getting quite popular these days, but I still like it!

The Gentlemen

A very enjoyable caper full of very clever cleverness.

7/10 paperweights.

Have you watched the re-edit of Part 3? I never thought it was that bad, or Sophia Coppola was that terrible an actress. Possibly I'm clouded by "other thoughts". Anyway I bought Coda and enjoyed it.

The first 2 are epic, though.

Possibly. I did once try watching from the start - a colleague couldn't believe I hadn't seen it so insisted on lending me his copy.

I gave up after 10mins. I think its because ive seen so many mafia movies and TV shows over the years i just can't summon up any enthusiasm for it at all.

I had got bored of Guy Ritchie’s thing but really liked the Gentleman. Matthew McConaughey is always watchable.

I'm about 45 mins into Tenet and to be brutally honest, I can't hear what everyone's saying. Between whispering, talking with mouth full and a ridiculously loud background music (and no subtitles available) it's pretty much spoilt it to the point of maybe turning off.
