Hereditary:

9/10 horror, Toni Collette is brilliant.

Just appeared on Netflix. Guy who did Midsommar's first feature. Terrifying IMHO 😆

Da 5 Bloods

That was a tough watch, but also very good. Great cinematography and interesting techniques used to transition between past and present.

Definitely worth the time.

8/10.

Lethal Weapon 1-4 revisiting these after watching The Murtaugh List episode of How I met your mother.

First is nowhere near as good as I remembered, hard to believe it was released only a year before Die Hard. Cardboard villains with Glover and Gibson playing it straight. Humourless and a very B movie feeling.

Two has all the bits I'd mistakenly remembered being in the first or third and was much better than expected.

Three, yup all the Lethal Weapony Goodness I needed.

Four... Now I remember it coming to the cinema when I was at uni and it being utter cack. But passing time, the relentless stupidity of Michael Bay movies and hyperactive MCU releases means it doesn't rewatch quite so badly. The car chase is pretty good. Jet Li is epic in the screen time he has and maybe I'd had too much booze, but it's not that bad.

I introduced the oldest two kids to Edge of Tomorrow.

They loved it. I loved it. It's a brilliant premise and is very well executed.

I remember seeing the trailer loads when it was first out but never got round to watching it, one for tonight I think.

Edge of Tom is great fun, my kids loved it too. Duncan Jones’ Source Code is a great watch on a similar theme.

Have you seen Oblivion, another Tom Cruise movie which kind of went under the radar?
Cheers,

Mike.

I watched Oblivion again recently and while it’s not as memorable as Edge of Tomorrow it’s still decent.

Cruise is usually pretty good though, I can’t think of many films of his I’ve hated off the top of my head. War of the Worlds maybe but that’s because I’m a nerd for the book and hated what they did with it.

Just watched this. Very good. Would strongly recommend. Nice to watch a horror that isn’t just full of jump scares

Not sure if this ha been posted before, but as part of an online movie course Steven Soderbergh did a black & white cut of Raiders of the Lost Ark with no dialogue, just an instrumental soundtrack to get students to focus on the reasons for every single shot they are going to make without any distractions. I know Spielberg always said it was a movie inspired by the Saturday morning adventure serials, some of which were often silent.

I think it’s a very interesting watch and works incredibly well without any dialogue.

The Old Guard

Off Netflix. Enjoyed it in "brain out entertainment" mode. Looking forward to the sequel.

Also liked the London scenery shots.

Greyhound
Tom Hanks as Captain of escort ship during WWII.
Non-stop action, not to much of an unnecessary love story, CGI did not bother me too much.
In all a very entertaining movie. Enjoyed it much more than I expected.

Bill and Ted Face The Music

A proper fun wee movie. K + A obviously had huge fun making this, along with everyone else, and it shows and it's proper enjoyable, especially in these troubled times - a real antidote to the shitty news doing the rounds.

Definitely worth a poke and I'm glad it's a thing.

Saw Tenet last night. Not convinced it hung together that well. Someone on Reddit said they felt like a one year old at their first birthday party, there's lots of excitement going on in front of me and I'm enjoying it, but I don't really know what's going on, got to agree

The dialogue was also incredibly hammy at times, if you could hear it. Think Bane in DKR. But IMAX sound and it looking very pretty made up for a lot of this. 7 Elizabeth Debicki's in swimsuits out of 10.

I've seen some pretty sniffy reviews of that but am still looking forward to watching it. I mean, it can't possibly be as bad as Dumb & Dumber To can it??
