That - if the mechanism is performing poorly, it will be obvious. OCD watch geeks will jabber uncontrollably about lubricants drying out etc., and there will of course be accelerated wear involved in very long-term use without a service, but the 861 movement in a Speedmaster is robust and very well tested. The one in mine is nearly 50 years old FFS.

ETA: what will eventually suffer more than the movement itself, is the seals and gaskets that keep water out - especially the stem and pusher seals which are very small and get a fair bit of mechanical wear. Most watch repair places can give you a cheap and instant pressure test though, so it's easy enough to do that once a year just to check the thing doesn't leak.

The keeper (as I've learned they are called) broke on my SKX007 rubber strap.
So I bought this as a replacement https://www.watchgecko.com/zuludiver-pr ... -strap.php

Could have looked around at different straps but I like this style;e with it so all is good.
A friend of mine has the tools to help me fit it (or fit it for me in 5 mins).

Having got my 20 year old (but with a replaced capacitor in the last 5 years) Kinetic Titanium out of the drawer to use again in the meantime, it's not holding charge despite shaking it back and forth several times, and stops every few seconds.

My fake Panerai from Thailand also needs a new keeper so maybe I'll get that sorted, though a new strap there would cost more than the watch.

A Seiko Kinetic which has been fully discharged needs a hell of a lot of shaking to even start up again, if it does so at all. You might find it'll work if you keep at it, though it probably needs a new capacitor.

Ok, maybe another new capacitor needed.
They’ve broken because they’re made of rubber, tbf the ‘Panerai’ one broke many years ago and I’ve not worn it since.

I now have one of these, thanks to Mrs Mad.

Never had a skeleton watch before. It's very bling and the markings on the face are a few degrees out from where they should be, but I quite like it as it's fully mechanical and you get to see the little wheel spinning back and forth (there's probably a proper name for that part). The rather cheesy 'Winner' text at the bottom is not as clear as shown in the picture here, or maybe it's just my eyes have trouble focusing on it!
