Bicyclist thread
Re: Bicyclist thread
Bah, must get my specialised out, this thread is not helping.

Re: Bicyclist thread
Trail bikes are great, I don’t bother with any of my other bikes these days - my Capra is as happy doing welsh DH as it is doing an xc evening.
Re: Bicyclist thread
My 905 really was a do-everything bike. Whilst not the perfect tool for anything it was a really good tool in almost every scenario.
The guy I got my 5010 off had fitted a custom 150mm Pike to it, so it's right up at the aggressive and competent end of the trail spectrum. It feels hard work climbing, it's got draggy tyres and even though for what it is it's a light carbon frame, it still feels 'heavy' to ride XC. I'm doing SDW 100 in a few months and don't want to do 100 miles on it, especially with 4,000m of climbing so it seemed the perfect excuse to get a really light, fast 29" XC bike.

Re: Bicyclist thread
I guess I look at bikes in the same way I look at cars. A decent all rounder appeals far more than a dedicated one-discipline one because I don’t go out riding/driving just one discipline.
I’d rather be in my M3 on my drive home when I turn onto that twisty road and the traffic has vanished. in the same way as I like to be on my Capra when the trail turns downhill and someone has stuck a nice double in it.
Both can do the dull stuff more than adequately without the need for Lycra.

Re: Bicyclist thread
I get your sentiment but I'd rather have a great experience than a mediocre experience more of the time. Driving a Caterham without a windscreen is a ball-ache for 90% of a journey. Getting it absolutely dialled into a few miles of the right road is stuff you'll take to your death bed. I see an M3 as a slightly faster but still quite dull, baggy saloon car for every journey you're in it.
A different analogy, I'd rather shag a supermodel every other week than have a fumble with Denise off the Tesco checkout every night.

Re: Bicyclist thread
I also think logic should never come in to buying silly toys. None of these things are needs, they are driven by wants. If I have even a slight excuse to get another bike why wouldn't I take it?
Re: Bicyclist thread
yep, I can definitely see that side too.ste wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 12:52 pm I get your sentiment but I'd rather have a great experience than a mediocre experience more of the time. To be fair, I don’t have enough time or money to go out chasing super models anyway, and Denise is a lot of fun!

Denis(e) Denis(e), oh with your eyes so blue
Denis(e) Denis(e), I've got a crush on you

Re: Bicyclist thread
If you REALLY wanted thing, you wouldn't even need a slight excuse. Therefore you are shagging Denise and you buy your shoes from Next. FACT.
Re: Bicyclist thread
Denise makes me give her an excuse.
Re: Bicyclist thread
Why cars shouldn’t cut corners.......
Re: Bicyclist thread
That’s just being retarded and not actually looking where your going!
Re: Bicyclist thread
Another one for Tim to add to his tally.
Re: Bicyclist thread
Cyclist quoted on BBC as not wanting to take this any furthe or press charges - fair play.
He is also quoted as saying though " We'll all come out of this and move on, hopefully as a better driver and me a more defensive cyclist at junctions just like this!"
He put his bike exactly where I would for a right turn at a t-junction. DIW?

Re: Bicyclist thread
I'm conscious of car drivers cutting corners like that, so on my motorcycle I'd be half a car length to the left and a few feet back, compared to where that cyclist positioned himself

Oui, je suis un motard.
Re: Bicyclist thread
I reckon I’d be actively trying to position myself front and centre like that guy did. I’d rather the driver saw me before he turned rather than half way through the move. That guy clearly has his eyes shut, there’s no excuse whatsoever for driving straight into something/someone.
