We were on a flight last year that ended up being on the Daily Mail site as an extreme weather landing. None of us on board noticed

Well I was going to do some work in the shed but the power just went as the storm seems to have reached its greatest intensity.
Incredibly my 4 metre canopy frame which is held together with clamps and 4 screws held up with 2 temporary bits of pallet wood is doing just fine

For context it’s facing the channel and only a mile away from it on top of a hill. If this were America,1000’s of homes would have lost their roofs already

Edit - well looks like the whole SE is without power

Hope everyone with an EV has it fully charged ;)

No, since the speed of sound varies depending on temperature, pressure etc.

Well the ground speed was faster, the airspeed wasn’t due to the 200 mph jet stream but still pretty cool.

You can’t say it went faster than the speed of sound when it didn’t, though.

You can argue with whoever wrote the BBC article over it!

Seems to have calmed down a lot over the past hour or so. Weather warning still in place until 9pm so maybe there's a bit more to come?

Feels just as bad here by the channel crossing. Went out to feed the goats and the wind was so strong that my glasses were cutting into my nose which is a first!
I suspect a tree must have gone down at the beginning of the country lane as I haven’t seen any cars go past since 3pm.

Looking at the satellite weather images you’re just getting the trailing edge of what we had up here this morning. It was nice enough this afternoon for us to get out into the hot tub. Still a bit blowy (requote at will) but our garden was fairly sheltered. Lovely blue skies and warm out of the wind.

The met office data says the wind is less now but the change in direction makes it feel worse, I believe there will be heavy rain soon to add more joy.
A tree has definitely blocked the lane though as the Ring cam keeps sending alerts as people are making a U turn in front of it.

I haven’t read the BBC article - I’m correcting you, and if you quoted something inaccurate without understanding it, more fool you.
