You know it makes no sense ;)

And yes, the tyres on that thing are almost certainly fucked.

JL, you seriously need to re-evaluate what you think I take seriously on this place. ;)
that one is clean looking from 10 ft, but I still wouldn’t waste any money on it.

Presumably the 20p sat on the seat was being used to do the old “how much legal tread have I got left” trick.
20p? I assumed it was a hole.

That French thing is quite funky... and I'm sure having the HVAC controls in the door work perfectly well! :D

So he's got £1k to throw away on something that will end up needing a lot of money spent on it at some point in the not too distant future? Ask him if he understands the phrase "false economy". I've bought shitters in the past, but I've only ever expected weeks of service out of them rather than expecting them to be my main family transport.

I'm sure Beany will get right onto telling his skint colleague that he needs to spend more money he can't afford on his next car because username "NotoriousREV" has instructed him to.

Seriously - these Beany threads really do deliver

IME you can be lucky - like the no-history Saab I bought which has touch wood not needed a penny spending on it in the last 16 months. I agree with Rev's comment that I wouldn't expect it to do daily commuting duties without objecting, however.

Plus that was one that had been visibly looked after with few signs of obvious wear and tear and none of severe abuse - basically the opposite of those horrid converted vans badged as VWs and Fords.

I think the point was choosing an ex demolition derby shitter with bald tires isn’t the best route for saving money.

Thanks for the clarification Rich, however I imagine that Dave - being at least as intelligent as both you and I - probably realised I was joking. But cheers, yeah.

Is he not better using the £1k as a deposit and going down the finance route and getting an actual car if he's going to be ferrying round his kids?

I had fairly new 3 litre V6 one as a rental. I thought it was shit.

Tell you pal to sell his kids into slavery, and get a fucking vasectomy.

He’ll be able to get a perfectly useable car for his budget, but he’ll have to use his head and look around for it. Seemingly this is a task most people seem “too much work”.
