For a budget like that I'd be looking at Gumtree etc and hope to stumble accross one that's been looked after and the owner has had it for a decent length of time. The fact that the dealer can't even be arsed to clean that shit heap up before photographing it should tell you all you need to know.

I regret not opening a garage selling crap like that.

Go back in time, try harder at school and get your Mrs to shit out a few less kids.
I think this is the most sensible suggestion. Out of pure incredulity that that shitbox was the best on offer I had a quick look at autotrader and pretty much every MPV 7 seater at that price is either a non-runner or is an MRSA risk.
Yeah, I've had that conversation with him as well - they'll all be 'a bit tatty' at this age.

Oh, and yes, I have told him to check private sales already. I'd wager privately that'd b a £500 car with a bit of cheek attached, but he also wants to get shot of his A-class (which is tatty, too) and traders are convenient from that standpoint. He seems to have a soft spot for TCC for some reason, other than that it's local. Strange boy.

Clearly this is a better choice.

I mean, what could go wrong with it, it cost £35k new, it must be reliable? ;)

I expect all the shitters on there have the same “LOOKS AND DRIVES WELL FOR AGE.”

That one doesn’t even pretend to have any history...

Rich is speaking much truth in this thread.

That car looks shit and should be kept well clear of. The best advice anyone could've given beany is to not have got involved in the first place ;).

I have a feeling Beany likes being everyone's go-to guy for cars, judging by the amount of times we've been asked to evaluate some shitbox for one of his friends / colleagues.

Is there a certain irony going on here?

Namely, he wants to offload what sounds like it might be a bit of a shitter to a dealer, but he also hopes the car he's getting won't be a shitter too?

They totally do.

Just pointed him at this instead which looks a lot more honest, short MOT notwithstanding.

JL - It's more that I like seeing the apoplectic responses from you lot.

Dave - totes, although he knows he's playing with fire with a trade in car, but that's what those of us who don't have large amounts of ready cash kicking about tend to have to do...

That's your answer to pretty much everything you post that gets a negative reaction though. I don't buy it at all FWIW, which is nothing.

eBay/AT tatty A Class privately. Do same in reverse to source new 7 seater shitter. Done.

Surely he'd get more for his own car flogging it privately than a specialist 'budget' trader anyway. At this price point a couple of hundred quid extra for him to spend wouldn't go amiss..

TBH my sister tends to buy French when it comes to the mum wagons for her three and in the true French stereotype the interiors are flaky but they go forever. She's currently in a Xsara Picasso.

my favourite shot - presumably of the tire with the most tread:

Presumably the 20p sat on the seat was being used to do the old “how much legal tread have I got left” trick.
