2005 Sharan - what do we know?

Post by Beany »

Office chum is looking to replace his sheddy A-class LWB with a sheddy Sharan.

Car has 11 months MOT - but do they have any common faults/things to look for when buying a ~£1000 example other than the obvious 'as it 'ad cambelt mate?' type stuff? It's a TDi 130 if that makes much difference, although I believe those engines run forever providing they're serviced.

Clicky for Sharan

Yes, he needs seven seats.

Any thoughts?

Same as the last time you posted up about some workmate wanting strangers to do the research for him.

Tell him to fuck off and use his own time.

Nope.

OK - some useful advice. Point him towards google.com, THEN tell him to fuck off and use his own time.

Already done that.

Didn't Gwelshy have a Sharan at some point?

It's a 13 year old car, for under a grand.

What do they want?!

Still have the Alhambra (same same). Nothing remarkable goes wrong, although they do like to eat droplinks. Aircon fails, expensive dash out fix, so if it works, bonus. VG Turbos stick & over/underboost & go into limp mode, especially up hill under load. Other than that, for a grand, it's a bargain for a years motoring for 7.
Cheers.

Probably bulletproof reliability, and it'll be your fault if it breaks.

In car entertainment - radio/cassette 😂

If he doesn’t have faith in the garage, get the AA to give it a once over.

Nah, pretty much what Gwarred said is what I was after. He's not naive to the fact it won't be bulletproof but if there are things to look for on a test drive, then it's worth knowing them ahead of time.

Cheers Gwelshy!

Get a sniff test done on the coolant. Headgaskets are known to fail on the 1.9PD and they can use water under load.

It's a grand so get one with the longest MOT he can find. And then fuck off.

Tell your friend to earn more money so he doesn't have to consider buying such shit cars?

I am genuinely trying to help here.

I've suggested similar.

And yes, of course it's rough, it's a £1000 sharan from around Bradford.
