I met him once (briefly) at Sir Geoffrey Boycotts house when I was there for an evening dinner event. Seemed like a nice chap!

Something nerve-jangling about a staple of your childhood, who was inexplicably present every time you went home up North for 20-odd years, moves on.

BBC Yorkshire on the old Facebook has some nice tributes to him.

Fair to say, local legend around these parts. I've not watched telly full time for decade and even I've got dust in my eyes watching some is those bits. :shock:
