JWST Launches Today

Post by duncs500 »

8-)

Been waiting for this for a long time. I suspect it's going to change the worlds of physics and astronomy forever, but it might just change the world full stop in the end.

Let's just hope after 30 years and $10 billion of work it doesn't explode on launch!

They should have let Bob Mortimer launch it with a much better 'and away'.

I’ve never been all that interested in space travel but that is mental. The engineering and technology to make something go that speed for such a prolonged time!

Making things go fast in space is easy, it's slowing them down that tends to get tricky

Just needs application of energy once you’ve escaped the atmosphere - there’s no friction.

I quite like this one as it has a few milestones on which bits unfurl when:

The replies from the other nasa accounts are brilliant, nothing like a bit of inter department teasing

Glad they got the sunshade up, there were a couple of delays and that had me nervous, and looks like a complicated bugger. Just the mirrors to go then I think and it's ready for commissioning.

That’s fantastic. 😎

Checking it’s position had fallen off my daily radar (pun intended) so thanks for the prompt. Keen to see first images. 😎
