Career change / mid-life crisis.

Post by unzippy »

I realised I hated my job and most of the people I worked with. I walked out and was instantly happier. Boiling frog syndrome.

While looking for a new IT job, I saw an ad on Instagram at my local BBQ takeaway/restaurant.

Got me a Widescreen monitor and ergonomic chair:

Stylus that I need to sharpen now and then:

Apart from the bread and pickles, I make this:

Despite the 5.30am start time and occasional 18hr days, I'm so fucking happy! I'm being paid to do what I consider therapy
First job I've had without an email address. No meetings, no appraisals and no dickheads. Everything I'm responsible for (not a lot, fire and meat) is directly under my control. It's bliss.

The Evo forum really is a shadow of its former self. I remember when the internet was for the elite and now they seem to let any spastic on

Fair play on making the break, and finding something you've been enjoying for years already. I'm hungry now, thanks.. 😎👍

That's properly inspirational and has made me smile.

Well done Zips!

Can almost smell the BBQ'd goodness and yes, my mouth is now watering.
Cheers,

Mike.

That's awesome, and the food looks great. As someone who also works in IT and hates it, I wish I had the balls to do the same.

Congrats!

It's brilliant to see such a dynamic pivot deployed around your fulfilment orientation goals this quarter. Can we loop back in Q1 to benchmark some milestones? 😂

Seriously, that is fantastic, I can almost smell it through the screen 😋 delivering simple products that bring happiness to people can be so fulfilling, I wish you every happiness in your work :) it looks great.

It's also brought up a bit of envy, I started a career change nearly seven years ago and I recently hit one of my goals. It was to engage high level UN Food Systems Summit participants in a change making proposal around accountability in the food system. However, the beaurocratic realpolitik and backstabbing involved when you hit that part of global food governance made me want to cry and literally never go back. I'm craving the simplicity of delivering something with some good old fashioned Marxist labour value involved. Also funny how I went from posting grot on here to the UN but it takes all sorts I guess 😂

It's been 7 years Gav and I still have no idea what a "Food System" is :)

The food system is basically the complex web of people and organisations who influence, or are influenced by, the activities that create and distribute food around the world.

Everyone above has said what I thought when I read this 8-)

And of course you can always turn this knowledge into an unzippy corporation enterprise at some point in the future. I purchase bacon from Aberdeen and smoked rib meet from Lahdahn via the post…..
