Olympics 2020 / 2021 (??)

Post by dinny_g »

Anyone care ??? :|

I really look forward to the Olympics normally but I just can't get excited about this one. Empty stadia, no celebrations, COVID cases on the rise

I get that people have trained their whole lives for this moment but are you really going to value your gold medal if half your opponents have to withdraw. Somewhat like certain medals from 1980 and 1984

I'm going to keep a track of it but yeah, the covid news from Japan and some other stuff has taken the shine off it a bit.

Poor Japan. Built those stadia for the crowds and then banned the crowds. What an odd thing this Olympics will be.

That really is the only draw.

I used to run for Hallamshire Harriers as a kid. Seb Coes club. I have zero interest these days, 800 and 1500 mtrs were amazing in the 80s.

Yeah they were proper races and proper rivalry.Coe, Ovett and then Cram.

Eamon Coghlan should have won the 5000m in 84 but for injury

Acceleration off the last bend by natural male athletes never to be repeated. Good to watch.

Freaky fest 2021 no-one is interested in.

Sadly, very true. I’ll be honest, I’ve lost all faith in track these days.

The final 200m of the 1983 5000m final are legendary for us Paddies!

Slightly unsportsmanlike but awesome all the same 8-)

Looking forward to it. Hopefully the commentary will in part make up for no crowds.

I trained with Brian Jacks a couple of years ago. He's still nails even in his 70's.

I'll be watching the judo (if I can find where it's being broadcast), but that's it for me.

The discovery plus app is apparently going to be streaming it, I noticed they've recently added eurosport channels to the app so maybe it's through that.
