Black Stone Cherry
They are a truly appalling band.

I was in a shitty mood this morning so put Beyond by Dinosaur Jr on for the train to work. I defy anybody to hear the intro to almost ready and not start smiling.
Nah. They're unoriginal and middle of the road (at least that latest album - I haven't listened to anything prior to that). If that equates to appalling in your book then that probably says more about you than them... Now that Jack White album - that was appalling - a dissonant and discordant jumble. Total crap.

Had a brief listen to Dinosaur Jr though and I like them. Kind of a Foo Fighters vibe to the guitar harmonics and vocals but more laid back and reflective.

That’s a lot of heavy hitters. Bold claim.

So many 'artists' seem unable to produce their own stuff these days. On the radio its always someone featuring someone else with the other person.

When you mentioned that list I was equally incredulous but you are actually right

That said, i'm not sure that sounding like a hodge podge of all the above is necessarily a good thing :?

8-)

Whilst my musical tastes are well known amongst most of you, even if you don't like metal, you owe it to yourself to check out Katatonia - no, not the awful 90's Welsh band fronted by that screeching bint, a Swedish band who produce some truly amazing music :-

I know what you mean. It was practically unheard of for bands to collaborate with other artists and producers in the good old days.

That's because they wrote, performed, and often produced their own music.

Most acts now are just singers/performers - it's karaoke - they're just singing songs someone else has written, produced and performed (musically)

My sarcasm wasn't noted there :).

Most musicians these days aren't just singers using other people's material and there were plenty of big bands from the start of pop music that didn't write their own stuff. Before music started to go digital in the 80's and 90's it was practically unheard of for bands to produce their own music as production equipment was hugely expensive.

It's one of those old man "kids today" gripes imo.

This guy sings like Rene's wife Edith in 'Allo 'Allo. I couldn't pay to hear that!

I'm aware there are more technically superior acts.

Tbh nowadays I just put TuneIn radio on and forget about it.

In fact that's one for this thread - good Internet radio stations. Loops is brilliant for soft techno.

Listened to the rest of the album tonight and, well, its pretty awesome! Definitely more suited to a proper listen on the hi fi at home to get the full effect rather than whilst commuting.

Aye it’s definitely worth listening to on a decent stereo. J Mascis is an incredible guitarist. All their albums are good but I’d especially recommend Farm if you want more.

DJ Koze’s new album is predictably great. Nathan will kill me, but “Pick Up”is an absolute screamer.

Roisin Murphy’s new stuff with Maurice Fulton is also tickling my tits.

I haven't heard it yet, but Koze is marvellous.

My mate shook his hand. I'm slightly jealous and I'm not even into hand shakes.
