Can’t complain about 103. RIP.
Re: Dame Vera Lynn
I’d always assumed she was someone who only existed in “black and white” History (Really old tv and photos). Like Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin or Marilyn Monroe, you knew who they were and what they did, but they were long gone.
103 is a bloody good innings though!

RIP. But as has already been said 103 is a storming innings.
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.

Like the Queen or Prince Phillip, it had to happen eventually.

Obviously. But in terms of someone who's just there seemingly forever and is a national institution who has been around forever, ultimately that sad* day will come.

Re: Dame Vera Lynn
From what I remember of bits read over the years, she didn't shy away from the front line when it came to entertaining troops, and would shun the officers' mess. To have made it through the war, never mind to 103, is remarkable. R.i.p..
Re: Dame Vera Lynn
To bring her a little closer to your technicolour cultural references, she was name checked in Ebenezer Goode by the Shamen. - 'Has anybody got any Veras?'
RIP.

Re: Dame Vera Lynn
I doubt that was a conscious reference by the Shamen to her as the Forces' Sweetheart.

Phil the Greek has been dead for years. They just keep reanimating his corpse.
