FAO Alex

Post by ShockDiamonds »

I'm starting to give serious thought to the replacement for the Panamera at the end of the year. Or replacements, because the budget either goes to something nice for all requirements or something 'ok' for the daily and something more interesting 'for the weekend'.

Any idea of a rough estimate please of what something like a DB7 Vantage would be annually on a limited mileage policy? Say, 5k a year, 45 year old male, 10 years NCB, car garaged, no convictions and zero points?

Yeah limited mileage should mean only a few hundred quid I’d have hoped.

That !

I can’t remember off the top of my head what the insurance is on mine (not a DB7, but must be in the same territory), but it’s a lot less than the annual service !

I’ve fortunately not needed to discover the costs of other repairs.

So yeah, wot Carlos sed ;)

Don't do rough estimates I'm afraid matey, but generally speaking, this kind of risk is very low, so typically very cheap. Feel free to PM me and I'll get an actual price sorted out.

I’m pretty sure db7’s are inboard rear disks so doing pads an any maintenance will either be a pain in the arse or expensive, plus if you go v12 then there’s multiples of everything, probably 2 ecu’s, 2 coil packs, then the 12 leads and 12 plugs etc so as said maintenance will be expensive. Plus it’s an 18+ year old car so suspension bushes, anything rubber and all the rest and your occasional car gets very expensive.

That and we’ll have to revive the old “it’s just 2 mondeo engines welded together” from the old forum and mention it every time you bring up the car and I’m not sure everyone is ready for that kind of commitment. Mind you it took a while for the bmw to go away so maybe we are.........

Don’t knock him, a DB7 is a great car to buy 8-) DB9 or V8 Vantage would also be on my list...

I agree OC. It's a lot of car for the money, if you don't mind spending a bit more on bills (which you could probably write off against depreciation to a degree), you've got a handsome, premium marque V12 GT for not that much money.

Sounds reasonable, cheers.

This looks like a decent amount of car for the money, and I'd assume there'd be a few things needed even then. It does at least fit in the garage with a little room to spare :)

Why, pray tell, would you buy that XJS in drag for as near as makes no difference (1-2k) a DB9?

That comment was only tongue in cheek (though I understand there is some truth in it), but you'd never have one over a DB9 would you?

The dials look like they're from a Rover 45!

They must be at the bottom of the curve too. It was always a good looking car but it’s aged staggeringly well  This will make up for the 2.0l £40k diesel slip up 8-)
