I'm back

Post by Delphi »

Ok, so what's new? I think I've kept up with most of you via FaceyB but I'd honestly forgotten about this place until a recent Slack discussion at work about motoring forums.

Recent updates from me :-
  • Got married.
  • Still contracting at Sky.
  • Driving a Volvo V60 D5 as a daily driver.
  • Was in the process of acquiring a 1988 Porsche 928 S4 until Covid-19 cocked everything up. I'm still getting it (it's currently part of my mate's collection) but I need to get my garage door replaced (new one has been ordered but can't be fitted for obvious reasons) and my garage cleared out to make room for it.

Welcome back Andy! Congrats on the wedding, and fingers crossed on the 928... looks nice. 8-)

I'm trying to think what you've missed, but I honestly can't think of anything interesting. Everyone seems to be getting very excited about EVs these days, so a V8 Porsche is most welcome!

Getting a 928S4 is never going to be a bad thing. 8-)

I am Intrigued by the wheels though - you don’t see that many on Cup1 alloys and the rears look narrower than oem (?).

Cracking project 8-)

Can't see from the photos but they may be 16" 968 wheels or wrong offset 911 wheels?

Nice 😎

I much prefer the rear of S4 than the later GTS.

I’m not even that fussed about whether it’s auto or manual.

The dodgy shifter has already been replaced with OEM along with a truly horrific non-standard steering wheel. I'm going to get the belts and water pump done as they're about due and then it'll be a case of giving it a really good clean and polish and slowly restoring it - whilst enjoying the quad-cam 32v 5.0 V8 of course! I don't want it to be concours - just a really nice, genuine example.

I've bought a fancy new automatic roller shutter garage door with an alarm ready for it (my current garage door is fvcked) and the insurance was ridiculously cheap.

You'll struggle to find a manual 928 as something like 80% of the production was automatic.

I think you may be right on the 16” Cup call Carlos.

Delphi - any idea?

928 looks good. I wonder if the manual was their own or something they bought in. I’d be tempted to swap one in if it’s easily sourced.

Porsche’s own box but apparently the Corvette 6 speed manual can be persuaded to fit.

The ‘Vette one works because it’s a transaxle.

Ah of course, I forgot the 928 was a transaxle.

I'm pretty sure they're Cup 1's. I'd have to ask my mate as the car is in Essex and I'm in Leeds.

Duncs - the garage door is coming from here. It wasn't particularly cheap but it's made to measure, has remote opening, interior light is alarmed. They also made sure it wouldn't compromise on interior space.

Cup1 came in both 16” and 17” flavour.

The 17’s are 1 better of course, and I don’t think the 928 was ever supplied on the 928.

Reason for my question is that the rears usually fill the arches more convincingly? Eg..

In saying that, the one I have pictured appears to have a 17” Cup2 on the front and a 17” Cup1 on the rear..... so I think we can say that is not how it left the factory..... :?

I'm pretty sure those wheels on mine aren't factory. I'm pretty sure the original wheels would have been these :-
