Good question. Seasonal fluJobbo wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 10:53 pmWhy did we have a lockdown at all if it was perfectly ok to go travelling round the country when you’re displaying actual symptoms of the virus?

Nope, try again.duncs500 wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 11:01 pmI've read it again, you were saying that the media would give him and easy ride compared to the scientist. Now you're implying it was a carefully planned attack by the media on DC. Which is it to be?

I just don’t think the press will apply the same level of pressure to this situation

Re: Coronavirus
If you go and read the rest of the context in that post and other posts I made you’ll see it’s not a statement but an expectation. Depending on your view point my expectations of the press are either realistic or pessimistic. You’ll also see I’m hoping my expectations are wrong which they now appear to be. Therefore it’s not exactly surprise of the century that I’m glad to see the press are looking like they’re proving me wrong and ramping up the pressure just like they did for the Scottish scientist. I did not expect thatduncs500 wrote: ↑Sun May 24, 2020 7:18 amAm I losing my mind or what?Orange Cola wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 7:19 am Once it’s been made clear he isn’t being sacked the story will die (and there in lies my issue with press compared to the Scottish scientist, she was more use to this country than DC ever will be but the press made sure she went. Re: Coronavirus
I suspect more government brass have “the lockdown applies to other people” stories or else he’d already be gone...
Re: Coronavirus
I only clicked to see GG justifying DC and his wandering ways? Colour me gutted.
Re: Coronavirus
Isn't it funny that it's so often the little lies that end up blindsiding the masters of spin.
Finding this morning quite amusing watching increasingly desperate statements trying to not only cover DC's tracks, but also justify the previous lies told to cover them with technicalities and more shades of grey than EL James.
I particularly liked this statement from Downing Street yesterday - you know their backs are against the wall when they have to rely on the Trumpian "fake news"/"Lamestreammedia" defence.
“Yesterday [Friday] the Mirror and Guardian wrote inaccurate stories about Mr Cummings. Today [Saturday] they are writing more inaccurate stories including claims that Mr Cummings returned to Durham after returning to work in Downing Street on 14 April. We will not waste our time answering a stream of false allegations about Mr Cummings from campaigning newspapers.”

It will be very interesting to see just how much power DC has over them now. It's almost unprecedented for someone to survive in their job with this level of media pressure in this country. While Trump has proven it's possible to weather these types of storms, the electorate in the UK is very different to that of the US.
Re: Coronavirus
Just like with the Scottish scientific officer, what's really boiling peoples' piss is that there's many, many people who've absolutely adhered to the instruction about lockdown for nearly 2 months now. In many cases that's meant not seeing loved ones... friends & family who are dying... going to funerals of loved ones... or being able to comfort those who are left behind. So when we see people in authority, blatantly ignoring their own advice, I can see why they're getting the ire of the general public and many journalists.
I totally get that the media, politicians and the general public are a fickle, hypocritical bunch, but these are very different times we're living in.

Re: Coronavirus
Hmm, apparently Cummings has been seen going into Downing Street today and Boris is doing the briefing tonight. Either Dom is gone or Boris is going to tell us off for picking on his mate
