To be fair it's probably not something anyone considered would happen. If they recently invested in buildings, kit etc they still have to pay the bills

Most disaster recovery and business continuity plans consider things like not being able to trade for insurable reasons and being able to begin trading from alternative premises etc. The idea of not being able to trade for 3+ months just because you’ve been told to stop or aren’t getting any sales isn’t something that won’t have been planned for by almost all businesses.

Not necessarily profit, it's about cashflow. Many businesses saw their turnover drop to zero pretty much overnight and if you've still got staff to pay, rent etc. then with no cash coming in you'll burn through what you've got very quickly indeed. Previous profit that's been invested into stock or equipment is not much help right now.

If you went to any company on the 1st of March and told them this was going to happen they’d laugh in your face, then eat their own words before the month was out!

So, could this be another reason some people get it 'worse' than others? (other than viral load)

And good to see Oxford's vaccine is starting human trials on Thursday. I have to say that I admire the play to start manufacture in large numbers before it's even been proved or approved. If the trials don't work out then all you've lost is the few £million you've wasted in production (nothing in the grand scheme of things), but if the vaccine works then you've potentially saved thousands of lives by being able to get it out of the gate sooner.

It's the exact same thing the government did with the tests they ordered but didn't pay for until they had tested them but everyone has complained about...

I'm led to believe that there is a genetic predisposition to one's immune system reacting with greater fervour than necessary (leading to the fluid in the lungs).

As for the Oxford vaccine I'll wait with baited breath. When other Pharmas are joining forces but still reckoning on at least 12mo to get one to market it seems a little surprising that another could get one in production by Autumn

Lots of countries show men generally suffering worse than women. Wonder whether that physical or genetic differences or something basic like men being more macho and ignoring it / not seeking help until it's too late.

I guess cash reserves of any magnitude are essentially dead money too, not making you much compared to having that money invested in something?

No it's simpler than that. Everyone knows that man-flu is the worst bug you can get. Woman-flu is barely worse than a cold. ;)

That's not been the case in Wales. About 26% of deaths were women between 40 and 60 the bulk of the rest were 60+ on broadly a 50% split.

71 deaths in Aus (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavir ... australia/)
There's no denying that Aus has/is doing well. However the lock down is a lot less severe than the UK.

Sunday I popped into work for a few bits - The Farmer's market down the road was running, and busy.
Most shops are still open - Bunnings, Spotlight, BBQs Galore, big malls like High Point - none of the UK equivalents are.
Fast food joints are open, albeit takeaway/drive through/delivery only - UK Maccers/BK etc are shut completely.

Not sure what my point is, just interesting to observe.
The Evo forum really is a shadow of its former self. I remember when the internet was for the elite and now they seem to let any spastic on

This is the kind of shit that needs to be investigated when we’re through this.

Whether it’s local London government, national government or NHS management. The impression is that people are desperate to be seen to be doing the right thing with no planning of how to actually implement it.

It’s not fucking rocket science though is it? We had a nursing shortage in the hospitals we did have before the epidemic, common sense would dictate that we wouldn’t have enough to staff these extra places. Maybe we could stockpile nurses in a warehouse like ppe? We could chuck them some food and water once a week.....
