Good to see something happening with it, but it’ll still be frequented by people who mainly buy a coffee or a small glass of Coke.

They need to re-introduce the Bone-Fide rules to make places like that successful...

Quite, and if they try to serve the crap the previous owners did they won't even sell that.

Hopefully the distillery will be self sufficient enough to allow them to maintain a cafe or similar, so you can at least get refreshment up there. I used to grab a bag of chips in Macc and ride up there some evenings, it makes for a great fresh air chippy tea, with great views. 8-)

Distilling whisky is a long game though.

They should have their first product ready for sale in, what, 12 years?

What do they sell between now and then?

A lot of distilleries make vodka or base alcohol for gin when they’re not using the stills for whisky.
An absolute unit

They have an existing distillery and were using the pub's cellars for storing the casks.

One imagines they might already have thought about this a bit :P

Yes they do. In Scotland for a whiskey to be called a Scotch it has to have been stored on a Scottish bonded warehouse for a minimum of 5yrs.

It does sound like they were able to make the maths work as a storage place only, before they thought about re-purposing the upstairs bit into something else. I hope it works well for them even if it's only a seasonal thing to keep the costs low :)

Good luck to them. Coffee and cake at The Cat and Fiddle sounds good to me 8-)
I'm not sure about the Weasel bit, maybe it's to do with their distillery.

They might have done 😉

Maybe going for the "If people can do a tour of the distillery and see how it's made, then exit through the gift shop, we can sell more (at higher prices) to the visitors" angle...

I very much enjoyed a tour of the Penderyn distillery earlier this year (although I didn't get suckered into buying what I can get at most supermarkets (and for a lower price) on the way out....

I'm sure no one has ever been able to make any money out of selling coffee 🤔

It’s a bit different selling coffee in a busy high street or shopping mall with loads of footfall than from a pub that’s literally in the middle of nowhere. There’s not even any locals to frequent it as a pub. You need to sell a lot of coffees, even at £3.50 a throw, to cover the costs of a distillery.

It’s almost like there’s a reason for it having being shut for nearly 5 years...
