Re: Clive James
Very sad about this one. An absolute legend. His book “Unreliable Memoirs” is one of my all-time favourites.

Me too Rev...
His travel shows in the 80's were a very glamorous glimpse into the wider world for me, living in little 'ole Ireland.

Re: Clive James
That's a blow although I know he's not been well for many years. As child of the mid-70s I grew up loving his TV show and then his writing as I got older.
RIP.

80 is a reasonable run. Have had many a hearty laugh at his tv stuff.

Re: Clive James
For some reason, I thought that he'd already kicked the bucket.
Regardless, loved watching him as a kid. And the crazy japs. RIP.

Yep, one of my faves growing up. Missed him when he stopped appearing on the telly.

9mins in had me practically wetting my pants when it was first aired.

I always loved his New Year’s Eve shows.

Loved his books. And general joy of life. A great man who will be missed.

Re: Clive James
Whatever you do, don’t read reviews of his book “Unreliable Memoirs” by ordinary people. It turns out the clue in the title isn’t as obvious as you would think it was

Was gonna say, this is what I'll remember him for. They were staple NYE viewing in my house growing up.
I have a strong abiding memory of one year. Mum and Dad had gone to the parents of a friend of mine for NYE, so Dad set the VCR to record Clive James' show. They rocked back up at about 2:30am and Dad immediately put the Clive James Show on the telly, quite loud (must've had a few drinks whilst he was out). It was so loud it woke me up upstairs. I remember going half way down the stairs and shouting at Dad to 'turn it down so I could get some bloody sleep.' I was only 11/12. The first and only time our roles were reversed.

Poop, but yup he hadn't been well for a long time
Watching Endurance with a Grandfather who was in WW2 I was always thinking "How would you stand a chance fighting people who do this to each other for fun? ".
Dinny; same effect over here, a long way from there
R.i.p. Mr. James, thanks for all the informative laughs.
