So the socialists have proven themselves more authoritarian than the 'conservatives' (I use that word advisedly as Boris is not really a conservative in any meaningful sense). I'll take that.

I think you're on a sticky wicket arguing that either the Scottish or Welsh nationalists are not socialist (or at least not more socialist than the English conservatives). SNP flagship policies revolve around giving stuff away - whether that be prescriptions or higher education. Either that or magicing money to fund an independent country that is not fiscally viable.

The reason I say that the SNP aren’t socialist is that there isn’t any core structure to their policy. They give stuff away because it keeps them popular but there isn’t anything behind that. The only discernible long term policy they have is independence.

The testing site and backend systems have improved significantly since last time.

Littlest one spiked a temp this afternoon (three hour nap with no fuss was a good indication). 99% sure it is a delayed reaction to the flu vaccine she had on Friday, but can't assume.

Logged on to book a test and we could get one in a local walk-in centre 10 mins later. If the results are as quick, that's a proper service!

You breach isolation rules on a small island with a limited population that's taken very strong measures to keep the virus out, you get fucked.

Apparently some tradesmen doing work on the Isle of Man got chucked in jail for fucking about with their post-arrival quarantine. On the flipside, COVID cases on IoM haven't gone above a 'case or two a day' for six months. So it clearly works in those limited circumstances....

It seems to be the ultimate taboo at the moment because there's simply no good alternative option, but I can't help but think all the various initiatives and restrictions don't really mean anything whilst we have schools open.

- Pubs opened in July. Cases still fell.
- People have been mixing in smaller groups all summer. Cases fell
-Schools open in September and boom - An explosion in cases.

Bizarre rules about opening pubs for certain hours and whatnot aren't going to stop people going home and being in contact with their children, who have mixed with hundreds of other children all day.
