Re: Motorway Mile Munchers

Volvo S90 if he can cope with a 4-cylinder engine. 730d isn’t too ugly if you go for the pre-facelift version before the gopping grille was added. 6-series Gran Coupe? For mile munching only the Volvo of the above will come with active cruise/lane assist which makes a massive difference to the driv...

Re: Motorway Mile Munchers

There's something about them, far from my usual type of car, but when I see these I really like them.

I'm also not bothered about in car tech as long as it doesn't get in the way.

How about a last of the line S Class Coupe? Not a hint of uber but does the job.

Oh yeah, nano fibres reminds me:
Spoiler
What if he held the records of the conversation in line with the fibre? The whole notion that slicing the ship to pieces was the best way to recover that information was ludicrous, probably one of the absolute weakest parts of the whole show.

Re: Decent Recent TV

I'd happily start a thread to discuss the science in the show, as I find this part of physics fascinating. I don't think I'd get many takers though.

Re: Decent Recent TV

I dropped off of 3 body problem at ep5. They keep undermining their hard sci-fi for story convenience. It's been a few years but iirc they're following the book fairly closely for the main sciencey ideas. They're definitely sticking to the speed of light limit (apart from the magic of instant commu...

Interesting, doesn't sound like Trump will lose either way. He's got himself into a position that allows him to rig the game whatever happens.

Correction, I think it must be Vivid Red I'm thinking of, saw Magma Red today and it's nice but perhaps a bit dark.

Re: Test drive report

I can see me getting a 911 in a year or two and it being my go-to every day car. I don’t want a GT version; I’d always rather have something more focused like an Elise or Caterham. The Emira has to be worth trying. If it still doesn’t make me buy it on the spot then I’ll try another MX5 and if I do...

Re: Test drive report

Colleague of mine has just got an A110, he's very happy with it. I'm looking forward to my p-ride next time we're on site together. I do like that green one you linked. For me they are rare enough to seem special, and they seem to have a growing enthusiastic following / community if that's something...

PS if anyone does want an MRI scan then volunteer for one of my studies. I'd happily volunteer for this! Yeah, me too! Free testing without having to beg the NHS has to be grasped! My mum died of the clogged arteries thing, and it's not something that's in our family history AFAIK, so it was ...

Re: Your fleet running reports

https://i.imgur.com/JT8ooIS.jpeg Genuine Q - in normal driving do you find the wind over the top of the windscreen hits your eyes? I have that issue in Elises and MX5s and I don't think my head is sitting much higher than yours? How tall are you? No, I think my crash helmet is quite chunky, in real...

Re: Your fleet running reports

https://i.imgur.com/JT8ooIS.jpeg First track outing for the Elise, it went well, and didn't miss a beat. I chose Snetterton, which I think was a good choice because the noise limits are quite high, and actually I really enjoyed the track too (plus plenty of run off). YK was on my mind, I'd probably...

Re: Baltimore Bridge Collision

you can have a dozen pilots, if you can't control it and you're at the whim of the currents I'm confident @IanF could have averted this. I read elsewhere that there would indeed have been a pilot on-board for this section. I meant an escort tug, sorry, we always just used to call it the pilot, but ...

Re: Baltimore Bridge Collision

When I was working on the Thames, the PLA would insist on tug escorts for anything of any sort of size, and actually insisted there was some pulling capacity on site even when we had fully spudded barges without secondary moorings. Maybe there just isn't the funds for it in heavily trafficked commer...

Re: Baltimore Bridge Collision

Surprised there isn't a pilot when pulling out under a bridge like that TBH. I mean, they radio'd in a mayday saying they'd lost control of the vessel - you can have a dozen pilots, if you can't control it and you're at the whim of the currents, you're basically fucked regardless. I meant a pilot/t...
