Re: Your fleet running reports

Had to fit a new bulb yesterday, but another clean MOT pass for the Stepwgn this afternoon, not bad for a teenager.

Followed an identical but maroon one home that's being used by a dog walking business (registration DO56 BUS). Think I've seen half a dozen around here now.

Re: Car finances and budgeting

Boringly sensible here, usually run a regular saver account that ends before insurance (biggest cost) is due, and the rest is for tax/MOT/servicing/contingency for the rest of the year. Leaf is on PCP, then also putting £250 a month into a s&s ISA pot that will hopefully clear the balloon when t...

Re: Car Plans. What's Next?

Half tempted to cash in the £5k that the Leaf has appreciated in 6 months - but the PCP deal was cheap (base rate will be more soon) and I'd have to get something else at an inflated price anyway. Was going to import a newer Stepwgn (RK shape) although shipping and exchange rates aren't favourable a...

Re: Your Coffee Machine Running Reports

I had a few Nespresso models for most of my life which were pretty average, then I watched some James Hoffmann stuff on YouTube 2 years ago and thought I’d try and up my game. Bought a Sage Barista and found it so much work that it put me off coffee - 6+ minutes of work and cleaning for 1 cup which...

Re: Thinking of getting a dashcam?

There's a few challenges to getting clear shots of number plates, dashcams tend to be very wide angle so they can see out of all of the windscreen but that makes things further away. Then there's motion blur before you even get into trying to capture reflective things at night. This is a good (if ne...

Re: Electricity tariffs

Our local pub is in a fixed deal - they usually fix 3 or 5 years. Remember that theres no cap on businesses so when it ends he is really fucked at the predicted prices. So much so it's a quid on each pint just to stay at the same amount of income. Carnage ahead and most people have no clue its comi...

Tell us again that tubeless is too much hassle?

I think I'm going to stop carrying a tube for the local couple of hour rides, I've been carrying the same one around for a few years now.

As you say, plenty of d/Deaf people use ones with a vibrating pad that goes under your pillow, plenty to choose from. https://www.deafequipment.co.uk/catalog ... arm-clocks

Hue lights can be set on a timer too, I have ours come gently on earlier than sunrise when it's depths of winter.

Re: EV Thread

They always work, it’s seamless, doesn’t matter where or what country, takes money via the car, they’re usually always cheaper, there’s usually a bank of at least 10 superchargers available and you’re constantly told via the car of available spaces. It’s a perfect system. There’s other small stuff ...

We're into the "early majority" bit now on new car sales (about 14% BEV so far this year) on the Rogers' curve. change adoption curve graph.jpg 200+ mile EVs for people who can charge them at home are really easy to live with. Still a "it depends" if you can't. Holding out for so...

Sold my Dreamcast for ok money last year. GameCube (which I couldn’t find any controllers for) and original Xbox went to recycling.

Anything more than a decade old can be emulated and a Wii can play the GC stuff.

I can't see any clues to who the couriers who sent the door were either. No packaging Makes sense I suppose - no fighting over damage being bad packing or bad handing. I bought a tailgate and a few other bits from Synetiq and was either their own truck or some sort of specialist courier, had rackin...

I’d only put my own money into a used Thinkpad for that money. T480/T490 probably for that spec/budget these days. Proper service manuals, endless secondhand parts availability because they sell by the millions into corporates. Generally work fine with Linux. Have a x240 for the kids and with an SSD...

I've been very tempted by the Izzo. Lower end one was in the recent Pinkbike test and was lightest by some margin. Giant Anthem, Trek Top Fuel, Orbea Oiz, Sonder Cortex all similar formula of price/geometry/travel although the YT is very good value. XC bikes are slacker these days, even a full-on ra...

Re: (Kinda silly) IOM TT Poll

The TT isn’t even a big prize money thing, I doubt any beyond the podium even cover their costs. I think I remember seeing a majority racing are privateers, they do it for the kudos. The IoM likes the attention and tourism, there’s always riders willing to race so can’t see it changing any time soon...
